Barbara was born on 19 February 1943. She was the daughter of Roscoe Born and Dorothy Anstaett. She graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland. She passed away from Hodgkin's disease on 7 February 1972.
