Biography

Johannes Lucaszen (Jan) Schouten was born in 1630 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands to Lucas Schouten and his wife (Unknown). He married Sara Saetji Jansen in 1652 in Netherlands. They had seven children in 17 years. He died in New Amsterdam on March 15, 1690, at the age of 60.

Birth

Johannes Lucaszen (Jan) Schouten was born in about 1630 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands.[1]

A birth date of 1635 in Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands, has also been forth by some sources.[2][3]

Marriage

Johannes Lucaszen (Jan) Schouten married Sara Saetji Jansen in Netherlands in 1652.[3]

Arrival

Jan Luycas, shoemaker from Oldenzeel arrived aboard the ship "De Otter" in New Amsterdam on 17 Feb 1659, accompanied by his wife and one young child.[4][3] That child is inferred to be son Lucas, whose name suggests that he was his father's first-born son and who is designated in his parents' joint will to receive a double share of the estate, consistent with his being the oldest son.[2]

Death

Johannes Lucaszen (Jan) Schouten died before March 15, 1690, when his will was proved.[3]

Will

Johannes' will was dated 9 March 1685 and was proved 15 March 1690.[3]
