How to Volunteer
First register as a Guest Member. Next you'll need to confirm your e-mail address.
Then you'll see a form on your profile page that invites you to volunteer to become a full member. Volunteering means that you want to help with the mission and plan to abide by the Wiki Genealogist Honor Code.
Submitting the form gives you the Volunteer badge and posts a note that Greeters will see. You will still be a Guest Member and cannot make contributions until a Greeter confirms you.
Once a Greeter confirms you as a full and permanent member you can sign the Honor Code and contribute as a Wiki Genealogist.
Why do you have to "volunteer" to be a member? Why can't you just join?
WikiTree members enjoy benefits that cost money on other websites — unlimited family profiles, unlimited photos, unlimited private family web pages, etc.
We do not have "premium" memberships. All WikiTree services are free.
In the past we allowed anyone to join. WikiTree ended up being abused by people who were taking advantage of the free services but didn't care about the mission. This hurt the community in many ways.
In order to always remain free we need to limit membership to those who want to help our mission to grow a shared family tree and want to abide by our community's simple Honor Code.
