Seeking father for [[Weston-1101 | Jasper Weston]]

I am seeking any information about the father (and mother too) of Jasper Weston who is WikiTree profile Weston-1101, my gg-grandfather.  His father, who called himself "Jacque Weston" - that may not be his real name - refused to discuss his family or heritage and took his secrets to the grave.

Jasper Weston always said his father had had an earlier family in OHIO (Jasper was born 1833 in Blount Co., Alabama) and that he still had some contact with 2 older (half) brothers as a boy - They were named Bill (William) and Baker Weston.  There is a funny family frontier story of how the 3 boys were playing in the woods near their home when Jasper was only 5 years old and he, Jasper, saw a panther creeping thru the brush.  He yelled "Run Bill, Run Baker, there's a 'painter' comin'..." [Southern accent] but he forgot to run himself.  Fortunately, the "painter" / panther = a mountain lion, no doubt - did not attack and no one was hurt.   Does this story "ring a bell" ??  It's the best clue I have.

I also know that Jasper's mother's name was Julia Hodge / Hodges / Hogg and that the family legend is that she was a "mail-order bride" or the 19th Century equivalent of same, sent up from Virginia to marry a wealthy older settler somewhere in the Ohio River Valley area but when she saw him, she refused him and eloped with my recently-widowed "Jacque Weston" ggg grandfather instead.  She is said to have been born 1797-98 in Virginia but that is Unproven.   She is listed in the 1850 Blount County AL Federal Census as living alone with 2 unmarried Weston children: Neffa - age 21 and Jasper - age 17.  She was: Weston, Elizabeth J., age 52, b. Va.

This is my most-recent Brick Wall ancestor pair.   Thanks for any help.

I find this

I AM TRYING TO FIND MY GGG GRANDMOTHERS FAMILY. SHE IS LISTED IN SEVERAL DOCUMENTS AS ELIZABETH JULIA HODGES WESTON. SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN BORN SOMETIME AROUND 1800 POSSIBLY BEFORE. SHE STATED SHE WAS BORN IN VA.
SHE HAD A THREE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER NAMED LYIDA HODGES WHEN SHE MARRIED (NO RECORD FOUND) A WESTON. SHE SOMEHOW CAME TO ALABAMA WHERE SHE OPERATED MILLS AFTER THE WESTON DIED IN THE PERIOD OF 1833-1840. SHE APPEARS ALONE IN THE 1840 CENSUS WITH CHILDREN LYDIA HODGES BORN 1823, MOSES RILEY WESTON BORN 1826 IN AL., NEPHANNY WESTON BORN 1828 IN AL, JASPER NEWTON WESTON BORN 1833 IN AL.
IT WAS RUMORED SHE CAME SOUTH WITH HER DAUGHTER LYDIA HODGES WITH A ELIZABETH JULIA'S FATHER HUGH HODGES OF VA. ON BUSINESS. SHE MET THE WESTON MAN AND MARRIED HIM AND NEVER RETURNED TO VA.
LYDIA HODGES MARRIED CALVIN TIDWELL IN BLOUNT COUNTY, NEPHANNY WESTON MARRIED JOHN BUTLER IN BLOUNT COUNTY, AL AND JASPER NEWTON WESTON MARRIED ELIZABETH LUCINDA FORTNER IN BLOUNT COUNTY, AL.

A son of Elizabeth Julia Hodges Weston. Born 1826. This seems to be the year she married the "Weston" man:

Hi Betty Many thanks for your investigations and I am intrigued by the person seeking information about Eliz Julia Hodge Weston from a different family perspective than mine. I will see if I can contact her. About the 2 marriage records from Alabama that you cite - how would I look at them ? I am not a member of Ancestry.com. Chet Snow-2128

That's a link to Alabama Marriages. You can order them from that website.

Hi Betty If I read that site - that you sent - correctly, it only applies to marriages in Alabama AFTER 1936. It says something about going to the Probate office in counties involved before 1936. So it really does not help me - but I thank you for your interest. One day I will find a long lost cousin via DNA that may know the answers... I appreciate your interest and help.

Could not have been possible the ggg you mentioned died in 1792 before she was born

Hello, Dolores

Your answer makes no sense to me - who died in 1792 ? All the individuals mentioned in this G2G were born in about 1795 or later.  Please explain who you mean.  Thanks.
