Looking for John Edward McLeod born in Baddeck, Cape Breton, NS somewhere between 1842 to 1847.  Died in Hillsborough, NB, Canada 09/12/1909.  He married Martha Ann Osborne of Osborne Corners, Albert County, New Brunswick and they had the following children born in Hillsborough, New Brunswick, Canada.

He is of Scottish descent.

14 Nov 1879      Maud, May

09 Aug 1882     Florence, Edna, May McLeod

25 April 1885   John Jr.

20 Dec 1890   Jean, B. (Beatrice)

A Cousin told me that she remembers hearing "somebody" say (when she was a child) that the Family came over on the Ship "The Hector" landing in Pictou, NS, Canada in 1773.  Hugh McLeod who was on that Ship had a son named David born in Pictou 1778 and he had ten children, one (proved by his Will) named John.  I found all the children, but for John only his birth and death dates, then nothing.  Thought he might be John Edward McLeods Father.

Thank you so much for your time...Connie

Hello Wayne,

I do not have the 1901 Census in front of me right at this time but I do have the New Brunswick, Provincial Returns of Births and Late Registrations, 1810-1906, which gave me a copy of Maud, May McLeod applying for a Birth Certificate.

Maud, May McLeod was born 14 November 1879

Her Father's name is spelled as John Edward MacLeod (not Mc) and Martha Ann Osborne (some lists have an "e" on the end of Osborn and some do not) listed as her Mother and signed by a Cousin; Mrs. Evelyn Steeves.

John Edward McLeod (as it is spelled on his Registration of Death) died in 1909 and has him listed as 67 years old.

Thank you so much for checking into this for me, I really appreciate it.

Hello Wayne,

I believe Martha Ann Osborne had a Sister by the name of Maud, or you are lookig at the Census where Martha and her children; Jean B., Florence, Maud and John Jr. are living at her parents house and are therefore listed in the Census at that address (John Edward McLeod is away working).  She definitely had a daughter with John Edward McLeod by the name of Maud, May McLeod born 14th Nov, 1879.

In the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, Vital Statistics from  Government Records (RS141) Maud is listed as Maud, Mary not May (a mistake) in the Index to Late Registration of Births.

Thanks so much for your valuable time.
