Pruning Request - Tydings and Tidings Lines

When the same familes can be found with two spellings, how is it determined how the profile will be named?  I started reviewing the Tydings lines, and made suggestions for merges, then discovered some of the some people seemed to be represented on the Tidings lines.

I admit to being a bit out of my league, and would love to see an arborist could sort this out?

The research of Fredric Z. Saunders found at http://home.netcom.com/~fzsaund/tydings.html
may be very helpful for pruning the trees of the Tidings and Tydings families.

Tammy,

The general rule on wikitree is to use the spelling that a) appeared on their birth record (if you've got one)-- or the other earliest document contemporary to their time, and/or b) the spelling the person used themselves during their life time.

It could also be that they were born Tydings and died Tidings. ;-)
