I Agree with the others BUT wanted to add an exception. There are some cases I've seen where genealogy groups will come up against a brick wall with contention between different theories. To resolve their questions, several will get together and agree to pay for testing to be done on any known direct male heir that will come forward. For example, one of my ancestors from the mid 1700's John "Jack" "Rockhouse" Martin from Danbury, Stokes County, North Carolina has several theories as to who his parents were, but no documented facts. There is a group offering to pay for testing on any male Martin that can show descent from John "Jack", if they will be allowed to use the results to compare against other Martins. It rare, but I have seen it... so get your lineage traced back as far as you can by traditional methods and then see what you can find from there. It's a long shot, but like WikiTree, it's free!
