Which place name should be used for birth and death--the place where someone lived, or the place of a hospital where the event took place, or the actual place where death occurred, if someone was traveling?

Thanks for answering this basic question.

Births & deaths  should be recorded where they occured, coupled with the source reference in support of that event.

If the mother was living in a city with a hospital and the birth took place in the hospital, it should be acceptable to place the birth in the city, ditto a death, the person lived in the city and died in the hospital, the city would be acceptable.

On the other hand, if they lived in one state or county and the birth or death took place in another state or county, the place of of record should be posted.

In my opinion we should always try to be as specific as possible with all information that we can find included in any data field and that would mean using the location where the event actually took place.
