William Owens born in Arizona in 1869 found in 1900 census in John Day Oregon. Williams parents were both born in Tennessee and it is thought the fathers name was also William.

Donald, I'm probbly not much help but looked t the 1900 census for William. Noticed two things. 1) He was living with a family that included a old pioneer family name of the area, Officer. 2) there was a chineese fellow there as well. In the 1880's there was a pretty large Gold rush going on in the John Day/ Canyon City Area which is in Grant County. I did not think to look at the 1890 census but did look at find a grave and found a William Owens in Fossil, Wheeler County, Oregon that fit the birth year, 1869.  there are several Owens families around this area.

Thank you John, my father was born in John Day. I have two candidates for the Wm I'm looking for, the one born in Arizona in 1869 and one born in W Va in 1881. I have yet to find an entry or a record with info to tie either one to my grandmother.

There is a draft registration for the 1881 Wm in Wallowa County and a census for 1869   In John Day. The mystery revolves around an opium problem, none of my family offered the truth until after my father passed.  My father did mention on one of his census that his father was born in Arizona but on another censu he put California, however her told my sister and I that his father was born in Kentucky. One census has a William in Oregon State Hospital, he had to be the one with the opium problem but no middle name or initial. There are a flock of William Owens.

Hello Donald,

I made a profile for William Owens (Owens-3572) and for Carrie Myers (Myers-5440). I put links to all of the G2G postings I could find regarding William in his bio. It is incomplete but there are clues and some records to follow. I connected his Carrie's Myers line to another in the 1600s. You can check the sources and add more as it is just a start. In the future when you ask about William on G2G please provide a link to his profile in the question so that all of the clues and evidence are in one place.

Let me know if you need more help, I'm here!
