I know almost nothing about this line of my family...My father's parents died when he was very young, and this was the primary reason I started digging into genealogy.
But now I've been digging through excessive partial clues about Joseph for so long my head has gone completely numb...
Do you know how many Joseph's there were in 1800??? It's obscene!
Anyway, I thought maybe if I could draw a fresh set of eyes or 2 into this puzzle something might break loose... after-all Dad's not getting any younger.
Thanks for anything you geneomasters may be able to offer!

The Randolph County marriage bonds as indexed by Marceline Beem give the husband of Elizabeth Stephenson as Joseph Rich and the husband of Marjarah Cox as Joseph Rich Jr. which could be interpreted as two different people marrying the two women.

IRT son (Rich-1951):

Ancestry has a digital image of a mortality schedule where Joseph Rich appears at Back Creek, Randolph, NC with a death listed as March 1880, age given as 66, occupation as chair maker, COD paralysis. Calculated birth is therefore ~1814.

Also, according to the entry for William C. Rich in the History of Wayne County, Indiana: a) Joseph Rich and Marjorie Cox had 8 children which did not include a son Joseph; b) there is no mention of a previous marriage for Joseph; c) given the estimated birth given in my previous post the family would have moved when your proposed son Joseph was 6 or 7 years old (not 3); d) On arrival in 1821 Joseph built a saw mill and a few laters took to farming which does not agree with your theory that "he moved about trying to find his place"

Thank you Rob! Exactly what I needed...somebody who wasn't hung up on false assumptions. As I'm looking back through, I'm not even finding what led me to the hard conclusion that Joseph even was the father of my Joseph. I still want to finish out this profile and complete the merger that is pending to attach him into the tree where he belongs...but now I'm back to where I was a month ago of "who is Joseph's Father"
I found an interesting Estate File last night for Peter Rich of Randolph ca.1829. (debunking another of my theories if he's the same Peter) and it has a very clear legible list of people who bought items from his estate. One was Joseph Rich, another was listed as Peter Rich 'son'. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QJ8G-M95S
I am certain of Joseph Rich b. 1812-1820 m. Delany (Redding) Rich Parents of Christopher Columbus Rich. Those are documented and proven. So now I'm just back to the drawing board on who Joseph's Father was.

Big Thank You's to Tom and Sally as well. This is an awesome site and it's only because of the people that make it that way.

I'm on a mobile at the moment so I can't see the image well but I think the will says Peter W Rich who if I remember from my skimming of material is probably Peter Wall Rich, and an ancestor of the Indiana Rich Branch. My gut instinct says the Peter Rich who married Sarah Davis in 1811 is the person who deserves additional investigation.
I concur with your gut...mainly because of the marriage date, but also because the Davis's keep showing up in my tree on both sides and the more twisted it gets the more accurate it seems ;-)
BTW, I've never seen WikiTree on anything BUT a phone...does it look different? lol

And yes it IS Peter Wall Rich...but so many Riches in the right place at the right time, looks like a good place for leads. I think Peter Rich that married Sarah Davis was his son...Indiana Joseph's Brother... going to check now. Thanks Again Rob! -P Rich
Yep Peter W Rich was the Father of Ennon Peter Rich who married Sarah Davis. Ennon bought a number of items from Peter W's estate and "Joseph Rich" bought a saw I believe...

I remember Ennon because on the handwritten estate list he was listed probably 100 times and every time it looked like Onion Rich.

Off to dig up stuff on Ennon
