Who was the mother of Edward Jowett?

The WikiTree profile for Edward Jowett currently shows that his mother was Cicely Bellyn, with a royal and Magna Carta ancestry.  What evidence is there for his mother?

Here's a website that shows (without documentation) that his mother was Esabel Skott, not Cicely Bellyn: http://minerdescent.com/2012/04/09/edward-jowett/

Does anybody have any documentation for either mother?

So this seems to be pretty much screwed up ... I have a note in to my Ancestry.com Jewett friend who knows all.  In addition, I have a Myheritage tree and it has Edward's mother as Margery Bellyn and her mother as Cicely (Poole) Bellyn ... then to the Talbots and the KG folks ... I'm away from my real computer until Monday PM so can't check sources ... stay tuned!

Okay, from the Jewett guru on Ancestry.com (James Jewett):

re: Edward's mother: still kind of a mystery.  Possible that the Bellyn link is real, however, no connecting records to prove it.  I think it is possible William Jewett, possible father of our Edward, was married to sisters.  Cicely and Margery, one perhaps died after marriage.  William was the Mayor of Chester where the Bellyn sisters were born and parents lived.  Edward owned land in a time when only members of the Royal family could, so, logically, there is a connection.  Tristan Bellyn was a witness of Edward's will which adds a little more credit.  It is also possible that the father of Thomas Jewett was Henry Jewett who was thought to have married Margery Bellyn.  Again, records are an issue.

DNA now shows our trail through the Northern part of France which puts us in good company with William the Conquer and his group that came over in 1066. Most of these men can be traced to a place in France, but our male ancestor appears to not be among them.

Note: one such French person was:  Henri de Juatt,a Knight of the First Crusade, 1096-1099.  This also from the source below but, as Jim states, no supporting documentation.

A bit more Bellyn/Poole info from this source (in its introduction):

Jewett, Frederic Clarke, [http://archive.org/details/historygenealogy01jewe History and Genealogy of the Jewetts of America], Volume I, The Grafton Press, New York, 1908.  Pgs. xv-xvi.

Following down to a little later date we find in Vol. XVIII. of the "Harlien
Society (English) Reports" : "The arras of Jewett, of Chester, England

Argent, on a cross Gules, five fleur-de-lis of the first, in dexter chief a

So, bottom line, I don't think we can prove or disprove anything ... so far.

Here's another less than definitive input, from: http://www.jowitt1.org.uk/

The origins of Edward are uncertain though many have speculated. Tracy Elliot Hazen, in the New England Historical & Genealogical Register, 1940, vol. 94, pages 99-107 suggests that he may be the son of the William Jowett buried at Bradford 17 Feb 1603/4, and possibly the widow Jowett of Bradford buried there 27 May 1613. Others have suggested he was son of William Jowett, mayor of Chester (Frederick Clarke Jewett in his Genealogy of the Jewetts of America also makes mention of William Mayor of Chester, but stops short of actually suggesting he is Edward's father). Henry L Jewett, in the Jewett Family of America Yearbook 1911 has suggested that he was the son of Thomas Jowett and Elizabeth Shackleton who were married at Bradford in 1578 (this seems a little confused; FCJ makes a reference to the above William who was Mayor of Chester in 1578 and also the son of Thomas Jowett and Elizabeth Shackleton so they could not have been married in that year; Also the Bradford records for that year are no longer extant so what was the source?). However, evidence for any of these seems to be little more than the fact that they may have been in the right place at the right time!

That seems like a good paragraph to use for a "Disputed Parents" section.  As you may know, in a situation like this, with more than one possible set of parents and no compelling evidence for any of the choices, the WikiTree policy is to:

1) Detach any existing "parents" from the profile.

2) Add a "Disputed Parents" section at the top of the profile, with embedded links to any of the proposed parents that have wikitree profiles.

I'll be inclined to do that in a few days, but perhaps you're still on the lookout for better sources.  If the parents get detached and information shows up later, it's easy to add them back -- just use the embedded links to find their WikiTree IDs.
Thanks, John ... I started the 'Disputed Parents' blurb in Edward's profile ... didn't detach any parents yet, probably leave that up to you. ... I'm like 60-70% on the Bellyn side but, as noted, can't prove a thing.
