Maybe Hillary Stocks is being spelled incorrectly as Heliry Stock in the 1820 US Census of Marlboro, South Carolina. It would be about the same time Hillary married Susanna.

This is Hillary. I don't know why but his name is often slaughtered making it even more difficult to find him.

Thank you for this post. It is helpful.

I'm trying to get back to Beaufort or Craven, Pitt Co, NC where I believe he was born. I'm trying to find his first wife and parents.

W. H. Stocks, may be your Hillary. He was a 2nd Lt. in the Civil War out of GA.  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F9XT-RMR

Do you have a birth year for Susanna McElroy and or for Hillary Stocks?

Do you have a question about this couple or who their parents are? Any additional information about them could help in obtaining more information about them.

Hillary was born around 1770, we think, in Pitt County or Beaufort, NC. Susannah was his second wife, born around 1789. They both died  in Georgia.

It looks like Hillary participated in the war between the states.
