Information on David Abbott, Old York, Maine born 1815 / 16

Question

I have hit a roadblock in researching the birth records of my g, g grandfather David Abbott.  His death record indicates that he was born in Old York, Maine in 1815 (est). He died in Braintree, Mass 7/28/1876.  He was married to Emily Ginn Richards in Charlestown, Mass. January 3, 1848.  Accordoing to the 1870 census he and his family lived in Westbrook, Maine at that time.   According to his death certificate his parents were David & Mary Joy.  The town of Old York doesn't have any record of Davids birth??
