I am researching the birth information for my third great grandfather Nathaniel Wright born 1799, who lived in Greenspond, Newfoundland, and was married to Hannah Allen likely in Newfoundland. His birth place is a complete mystery; and while many in the area are from the Dorset or Christchurch area of the Uk; I have not been successful in locating him, or in discovering who his birth parents were. It is possible that he was born in the US. Our oral family history has always maintained a connection to the Wright Brothers and their family; my great grandmother Priscilla Wright, (b 1873 in Greenspond, died in Montreal); according to my older siblings in her old age and with poor eyesight, would have them read to her letters from the Wright Family she kept in a box in her closet. As I have no idea where those letters would be since her death in the 1970s, and without being able to trace her grandfather Nathaniel's origins; I am at a brick wall.
I do believe the exchange of letters was valid given the Milton Wright family's propensity for maintaining contact with distant relatives, and genealogy. I have reviewed the Wright museum collections but as far as accessing their personal letters beyond what is online has been fruitless.
I do have one lead, that of a William Ward wright, found in the records for Bonavista, Newfoundland in 1791. He returned to Christchurch apparently. In Christchurch a will was probated in 1839 (George Garland) with his name mentioned. Interstate I have had my DNA done and note the surname WARD comes up frequently in those distant cousins though up until Nathaniel in Newfoundland, I have not come across the Wards.
Thanks for any assistance!
