Thomas Barnes of New Haven has been merged with Thomas Barnes of Hartford. Please help separate them.

Question

The profile of Thomas Barnes-775 of New Haven Colony has been merged with a profile for Thomas Barnes of Hartford. All of the children attached to this profile belong to Thomas Barnes of New Haven and belong to his wife Mary UNKNOWN-135101. The wife Elizabeth UNKNOWN-131500 is also correct. But the father and two brothers and the wife Mary Andrews-425 do not belong to this profile. Much of the biography belongs to the Hartford man. I believe the pictures on the profile also belong to the Hartford man. I would like to delete all of that incorrect information from this profile, but would like to give anyone who is interested in the Hartford man an opportunity to save his information in a new profile for him before it's gone. I welcome any suggestions if someone has a better idea of how to separate these two. Thanks!

I made several changes, including adding "Thomas Barnes of Hartford" and "Thomas Barnes of New Haven". Please check my edits. Is there more that needs to be done? I think the children and wives are now correct.

What has to be done is a new profile has to be created and the info moved and connections that belong to it attached. So if you want this profile to be for the New Haven guy, you make a new one for the Hartford guy and instead of deleting the info, you copy and paste it to the new profile. You also move any connections that belong to him to the new profile. In the end there should be two separate profiles.

Now its about 1 year after the question was asked. I've been doing a lot of research to untangle some of the New England profiles. Three Thomas Barnes have mixed up profiles, spouses and dependents.

ppp Thomas Barnes-657 of Hartford, then Farmington This profile probably should NOT be the Hartford guy because he has sons William, Thomas[b 1623] and Daniel - the Hartford guy seems to have sons Benjamin, Joseph, Thomas[1666] and Ebenezer

I just checked the information for Thomas Barnes-775 of New Haven. I think his data is all okay. It agrees with what is in Jacobus, "Families of Ancient New Haven".

Hi Kay, Thanks for responding. The bio for Thomas of New Haven seems to have so many sentences that don't fit. Examples: BARNES, THOMAS, resided ... in Hartford, in 1640, etc. ...was a town proprietor in Hartford, Connecticut in 1639 ... Thomas Barnes arrived on the ship William and John with 101 passengers that landed in Boston 1635. In 1636 he became a Proprietor of Hartford, Ct....

Kay, I'm finished with the edit. Your narratives on the children's biography was helpful, nice work. I did not find any info to connect Thomas Barnes-775 a birth date of 26 Aug 1623 at Barking, Essex, England.

Thanks, Sheila. That looks much better! It seems to me that we should also mark as uncertain his birth date, location, and connection to his father. Do you have any evidence that the picture of him is correct? I see that I wrote earlier that I thought the picture belonged to Thomas of Hartford.

Hi Kay, It looks like the photo came from the findagrave site.  Take a look at the profile connected to Thomas Barnes-775 as his father. It is Thomas Barnes-657  "of Hartford". Let me know when you remove the father-child link between these 2. Thanks

I looked for a findagrave site to try to find the picture, but couldn't find one for either this Thomas Barnes-775 or Thomas Barnes-657 "of Hartford". Hi Kay, The first search I did was google "thomas barnes new haven photos" and that showed the image on his profile. Yesterday when I clicked on it, it linked to findagrave. Today it links to wikitree. The findagrave memorial # 82409794. This is the first time I discovered that there are entries on findagrave without connecting to a particular state or cemetery. When you get to findagrave, click on the tab for flowers and read what is written.

Sheila, I added the Find A Grave Memorial # to his profile so it's easier for someone else to check it out. Then I used a 'Bing' lookup on the photo and found it marked William Cabell Rives. I think the picture should be removed from this profile. Do you agree? Should we also remove the Pequot War image for the background? I think that was related to the Thomas Barnes of Hartford. Any ideas about the picture of his home?

Thanks, Sheila! I just wrote to Doug Lockwood who added the picture of the Barnes home. It apparently belongs to the Thomas Barnes of Hartford. I'm going to remove all the pictures from this profile. None of them belong to this Thomas Barnes.
