Creach Trail ends...Last known-James Enoch Creach born 1805 Norfolk, VA

Was hoping that someday DNA would link our Creach family with earlier Creach's or Creech's since our oldest link ran away when he was very young and we know nothing of the family prior to James Enoch Creach b, Oct 20, 1805 Norfolk, VA. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

There was a Creech family in the area where he came from with a bunch of children...and an opening in the dates of the births of their children that could accomodate my GGG grandfather, but spelling is different and without a DNA match we will never ever know. If it would help for a male to do DNA test, I could probably manage that. I just don't know where else to look.

Jillaine, Hello!  Did not find anything on parents but did find this:  James Creach was a Civil War Veteran go to Soldiers and Sailors web site at: http://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-soldiers.htm  type in name and union.  Also go to:  http://www.findagrave.com  Memorial #34519844.  His children can be found at: Charles Enoch Creach his wife was Amanda Minerva (Phillips) Creach (1866-1942). Go to: http://www.findagrave.com  Memorial #43330380.  He also had a daughter her name was:  Emma Catherine (Creach) Russell go to: http://www.findagrave.com  There is a lot of information about her and her family. Includes Census's for 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 Census.  It even has a picture of her.  Gives her husband's name as John Harrison Russell (1826-1906) and they had a child:  Mary Ann Russell (1848-1861)  Emma Catherine (Creach) Russell can be found on this web page:  http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=9050052.  Forgot to look for Mary Polly (Allison) but, you could look for her on findagrave.com as well.  Hope, this gives you some informatiion that you do not have and leads you to information on James's parents.  Best regards and enjoy the search.

Hello Michelle,

You can set up an autosomal DNA and X chromosome project at WikiTree for James Creach (and his wife).  Anyone in WikiTree who has James somewhere in their ancestry and who has their auDNA results in GEDmatch could join.

Then look for any overlapping (shared) segments (including X segments) for that group.  Those segments are more than likely from James (or his wife).  Someone in GEDmatch who also matches everyone who shares one of those segments, but is not known to descend from James, may descend from an ancestor of James.

GEDmatch can also profide a clue to the geographic origin of a shared segment.

Sincerely, Peter

Michelle, In order to do what Peter is suggesting you will need to upload your Ancestry DNA test results to GEDMatch.com.

Also, if you have a living brother you could have him take a y-DNA 37-marker test. Then if you can find any living male Creech descendents to test you can compare their yDNA to check on your theory.

You have the wrong parents for Charles Creach. Charles' parents are James Creach born August 02, 1843 and died February 08, 1883 in Camden County MO. Married Eliza Riley born October 06, 1846. James Creach's parents are James Enoch Creach and Mary Allison as you have them listed.

I have not been able to trace farther back than James Enoch.

All this history comes from Lena Creach who wrote a family history. Members of the family have been verifying with records.
