Hi,

I believe Sarah Jane Taylor is the direct maternal grandmother of my oldest living relative.

I would love some help getting past this brick wall.

Her husband, George Eccles, served in the first world war, and the records from this have been helpful.

However, I'm really struggling to pin down a birth record or details of parents for Sarah Jane Taylor, who was born in Billinge, Lancashire, England around 1885 (according to Census records).

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Jon.

Thanks so much for this.

I wasn't aware that the Lancashire BMD site gave that extra information. That is really helpful. I was beginning to think that it must have been a registry office wedding. I guess that makes sense given that they had already had a child out of wedlock.

Massive thanks for helping to find the census entry too. This has to be the one!

Lancashire OnLine Parish Clerk website  http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Billinge/staidan/index.html has the baptism for Sarah Jane 1886-1893, and also Henry & Martha's marriage on 14 Nov 1885 at St. Aidan, Billinge including both their father's names.

Thanks so much for your quick reply Frank.

I found all these too, which is why I'm really struggling! I can't really find anything to back any of these up.

I found an 1891 census record that suggests the parents might be John and Mary Ann Taylor, but that doesn't match any of these.

Also, I've been completely unable to find any official marriage record that might narrow the search down a bit.
