Henry Vincent, born around 1749, spur and bit maker to the Prince of Wales. Living in Swallow Street in 1784. Died around 1828. Appears to have married twice. Once to a Mary and another to Elizabeth. Neither last names of the women I know, but possibly the second marriage to Elizabeth was previously his housekeeper?
Henry was father of Thomas Vincent goldsmith, born abt 1781 died around 1828 (same year). Possible Thomas may have ended up in an asylum of sorts after losing his family business/wealth. He was living in High Holborn and then removed the family to Hull after the business failure.
Grandfather of , Henry Vincent (The Chartist). John Vincent, William Edward Vincent, Edward Vincent and Thomas Canney (or Canny) Vincent.
If I could determine the grand father's wife's last name (either wife may be helpful) that might break my brick wall. I can't go beyond Henry because I can't find any more on him. His will indicates he worked for many years in the spur and bit making businesss which is how he acquired his fortune....would fortune back then be a fortune like many of us would assume? Or was it, as it can be today "relative to what you know"? It looks like he might have owned a few houses, businesses and shares in an insurance place "Hope Insurance Office".
Any ideas about the Chartist's grandfather? I'm so stuck and I've been to the library, only to be turned away to come back another day, but I don't think the biographical sketch is going to give me much on his grandfather. I could be wrong...
