Henry Vincent was known as Henry the Chartist and lived from 1813 - 1879. His father Thomas died in 1829 and I don't know Thomas's birth date, nor do I know anything beyond Thomas. Thomas was a silver and goldsmith working out of High Holborn back at the turn of the 19th century in London.

That was the first thing I found when looking for Henry Vincent the Chartist. To be honest, I didn't know what a chartist was until I found that and started looking into it. You should have seen my reaction...it was dumbfounded delight. There are other pages on him. Someone else wrote a blog piece and there's a section in the British history travels. It's quite something and once I get my tree a bit more ordered - have reached out to a second cousin who knows way more than I, I will assemble all the bits and pieces pertaining to great Uncle Henry as he seems to have been quite an inspiring individual.
i have a bit of info on henry and family
Really? I know his name is Henry Vincent and that's about it. Possible birth date around 1753. If you have more info, I'd love to see it. We're at a stand-still with him right now.

Thank you for that. I wasn't sure about Thomas's father and mother. I had come across those before elsewhere, but some other details didn't match what I had pertaining to Henry's siblings....perhaps there were more than I thought. Appreciated much!

I had approximate birth date for Thomas as 1781. It said he was 47, but of course, that is not definitive. I was just curious as to some of the siblings of Henry as my information may not be complete an I was wondering if whomever wrote my version before the times of access to the internet had missed it). There is at least one name missing. I came across Thomas Iphediah Vincent earlier today, so I was curious when you gave me the same information. Thank you again. Will look at other background info I have on hand to see if it matches.
Henry Vincent, born around 1749, spur and bit maker to the Prince of Wales. Living in Swallow Street in 1784. Died around 1828. Appears to have married twice. Once to a Mary and another to Elizabeth. Neither last names of the women I know, but possibly the second marriage to Elizabeth was previously his housekeeper?

Henry was father of Thomas Vincent goldsmith, born abt 1781 died around 1828 (same year). Possible Thomas may have ended up in an asylum of sorts after losing his family business/wealth. He was living in High Holborn and then removed the family to Hull after the business failure.

Grandfather of , Henry Vincent (The Chartist). John Vincent, William Edward Vincent, Edward Vincent and Thomas Canney (or Canny) Vincent.

If I could determine the grand father's wife's last name (either wife may be helpful) that might break my brick wall. I can't go beyond Henry because I can't find any more on him.  His will indicates he worked for many years in the spur and bit making businesss which is how he acquired his fortune....would fortune back then be a fortune like many of us would assume? Or was it, as it can be today "relative to what you know"?  It looks like he might have owned a few houses, businesses and shares in an insurance place "Hope Insurance Office".

Any ideas about the Chartist's grandfather? I'm so stuck and I've been to the library, only to be turned away to come back another day, but I don't think the biographical sketch is going to give me much on his grandfather. I could be wrong...

I possibly have figured out an Elizabeth Williams, but the way I got there was by determining average ages of marriage and the age of the children that Henry had. I couldn't determine the other wife's last name, so it's all guesswork at this stage, but figured if I threw in Williams, someone might have a eureka moment - "that ties in with my family!" or maybe not.

I had run the name past another family member and they had come to the same conclusion, but like myself, there was nothing to back it up, so it's sheer speculation at this stage.

Have you tried the livery companies. Both Henry and Thomas had trades which would have required an apprenticeship .You probably wouldn't discover Henry's (1749) mothers name but you could find his father.

Thomas would  have been apprenticed as a Goldsmith but it is also possible that Henry would have been a member of that company (he was a silversmith )

It might be worth contacting them and if that's not the right company they might be able to suggest another one . The trades for which they are responsible is sometimes quite wide. My husband has an ancestor that was a member of the fishmongers guild; he didn't sell fish, he made fishing rods
