I have a distant relative named Richard Sutherland Sargent. He was born in Westchester, NY in 1911. His father was Evlan Sargent, MD, and his mother was Winnefred Garrett Crompton, known to her close relatives a Winnie Sargent. Evlan and Mrs. Sargent lived in Moline, IL. 

Their son, Richard Sutherland Sargent's occupation was that of an artist.

Dick Sargent was a successful commercial artist who painted covers for the Saturday Evening Post. He was also a skilled watercolorist and oil painter, retiring to the Andalusian mountains in Spain to paint the stunning landscapes there.

 

Dick was hired by the WPA to do a mural for the post office in Morrillton, Arkansas.  It occupies an entire wall of maybe 14 feet across. The colors are warm primaries, blue jeans, red shirt, yellow haystack. This is the original shot that he had made of it before it was put on the wall.

Hi, I happen upon this site while researching old photos, trying to locate owner of Stoddard-Dodge on my Grandmother's side of the family. I have SARGENT lines and cemetery photos but they are not in the last century, still I wondered if Wendy and I could be related on my grandmother's side, as I have yet to find any living children of her father's siblings and my grandmother only had 1 1/2 sister who did not marry...after reading I found information that about my grandmother's cousin's line, the only relative of her's that I know of, her name was Vesta Battles and she was married to Raymond Sargent. I knew his father's name but not his wife's last name and a few other details that were posted. Thanks for the information and I will look at my records to see if there is someone here I can assist.
