Does anyone know how to read Magyar?

Question

I have just added my grandmother, Elizabeth Szabo Turoczi Martin's family bible to her pages (the genealogical information, anyhow) and I could use a little assistance with it as it is in Magyar/Hungarian. Hi Beth,

Can you transcribe it?  In other words, can you identify the individual letters? (I've had fits doing this with German handwriting.)

If yes, try Google Translate.  This is the proverbial dancing bear of translators. ("The amazing thing about a dancing bear is not how well it dances, but that it dances at all.")

It won't likely give you a perfect translation, but it may give you enough to puzzle it out.

I have some of it figured out but some of it just doesn't make sense to me. I index records at FamilySearch Indexing but some of this is just so foreign to me that I can't make heads or tails of it. Part of the bible I scanned had the Lord's Prayer in Magyar but I didn't put that online since there is no genealogical info but it looks beautiful.

I have tried the translators and haven't gotten far with them.

Thanks for the advice though.

Hi,

I'm hungarian so I can help you about hungarian(or magyar) writing and reading. What is your question? I can't see anything on the Sabo-36 page, probably because I am only a volunteer for now.

I have several photos of my grandmother's family bible on her page that our written in Magyar. If you can't see them, I will try to figure out how to invite you to my pages so that you can. I have had trouble figuring that out, too.

 

I did find a neighbor who helped me out a little bit but she couldn't remember enough to figure it all out so I would appreciate it if you could help.

I forgot to mention it here but I have recieved help with the magyar on the family bible pages. I appreciate it that you offered and apologize that I didn't mention that I got the help earlier.
