Looking for parents of Joseph David Hicks 1839-1904

Question

Does anyone have information on the parents of JOSEPH DAVID HICKS (b. 1839, d. 1904).  He was supposedly born in Georgia, but as an adult he lived in Kemper County, Mississippi.  He was married to Amanda Kate Jackson.  He was my 2d great grandfather, but I've been unable to locate ANY information on his parents or siblings.  My grandfather, Alonzo Dewitt Hicks, (now deceased) "thought" there was Cherokee lineage in his family, but I can neither confirm or deny this family legend.  Any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.
