I am the daughter of a Thomas Curry Oliver  (1916-1992) whose parents were Thomas Oliver and Jane Davison. They came from Hexham however the lineage is a bit difficult to fathom as there was quite a few Olivers in the region at the time, also the local church which held documents of families was burnt down.

I THINK my GGrandparent was William and Hannah and that Williams father was a Robert Oliver and his father was George Oliver.

I have heard a whisper that we were related to the architect Thomas Oliver (something that intrigues me as me and ny siblings have an artistic streak in us) but im having trouble finding the link due to there being quite a few Olivers with varying dates and spellings of their first name.

If anyone could shed some light it would be great

Thanks in advance

Records for the architect Thomas Oliver, indicate he was Scottish origin, being born in Over Crail, Roxburghshire, 14 January 1791. Seems he came to live in around 1813 Newcastle upon Tyne, to join an Architectural practice.
I remember family talking about having had scottish links, apparently we are allowed to wear the full kit of scots man, with the right to some sword/knife in the sock? On the Olivers side there is meant to be also a male relation that was deported to Australia due to sheep rustling on his way from scotland to market, also a knight and on the Davison side there is meant to be a relation to the suffragette Emily Davison.

Its all very intriguing but also frustraing trying to find anyone past William Oliver thats a Cert.
Working a litle further back, William Oliver married Hannah Hellen Robinson in 1863, Hexham.

I have 4 generations of Olivers in Northumberland in my pedigree, going back to 5th great grandfather Andrew Oliver who married in Horton in 1776. I think that the next step back is either going to take me to the Bellingham area or across the border to Roxburghshire.

I just joined wikitree yesterday and will be adding these folks as I build out my tree here over the next few weeks.

Amanda,

Did you get any replies from Hexham?

I am assuming your dad Thomas was the brother of Wilf?Would this be right?

The Thomas oliver I knew lived at ugham I think. Didn’t know him as well as wilf although both were great friends of my dad.

Both were cousins of my mother, Lilian’s Gladys davison.

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers
