I am looking for more info. on my great uncle John Wright Biddle who was killed in action july 1900 at palmifontein sth. africa .i have his dossier but it contains more questions than answers.He moved from ch.ch. nz to nsw. aust. and fought for the 1st new south wales mounted rifles.

This site https://www.awm.gov.au/unit/U52007/ contains very brief information regarding the engagements that the 1st NSW Mounted Rifles undertook. Primarily dates for their actions with Palmietfontein occuring on the 19th July.

This site http://www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/australian-units/166-new-south-wales/386-1st-nsw-mounted-forces has slightly more depth to it, but only contains one sentence regarding the Palmietfontein action. It purely mentions that they lost three killed and a lieutenant and several men wounded during a sharp fight.

Thankyou Simon for you effort thats great . The ref. to a lord roberts is interesting as  john wright biddles elder sister was married to a mr. r.j. roberts at the time of his death.I find it strange that i am unable to find a personnel record for him as most of all the other soldiers ive looked at have fairly detailed records with next of kin etc. i have arequest in to archives aust. so will see how that gos.
