Timothy - Don't know if you already have this, but here goes:
I thought if I could find ARIE LADD on a Census before she married, I would be able to find MITCHELL STRICKLAND living in the same area.
I found the LADD FAMILY on the 1880 Naramore, Hall Co., Georgia Census. ARIE is age 11. I looked at the 10 pages of this Census and could not find any STRICKLAND's. I even tried just searching Hall Co., Georgia Census, but didn't find one that I thought would "match".
On the 1900 Gross, Jackson Co., Alabama Census ELIZABETH STRICKLEN and her son, EARL C STRICKLEN, are living with her parents, PLESANT & ADLINE LADD:
Daughter, ELIZABETH STRICKLEN, age 32, widowed, she has had 5 children, with 1 still living, born Jan 1868 in Georgia, parents born in South Carolina.
Grandson, EARL C STRICKLEN, age 2, born Nov 1897 in Alabama, parents born in Georgia.
NOTE: "STRICKLEN" is how the Census taker spelled her "surname".
By the 1910 Census ARIE has married CHARLES C CLAYTON - they are found on the 1910 Gross Spring, Jackson Co., Alabama Census:
Head of household, CHARLES C CLAYTON, age 69, this is his 2nd marriage, married for 0 years, born in the US, parents born in the US, he is a farmer.
Wife, ARIE E CLAYTON, age 41, this is her 2nd marriage, married for 0 years, she has had 4 children, with 1 still living, born in South Carolina, parents born in SC.
Stepson, EARL C STRICKLAND, age 12, born in Alabama, father born in Georgia, mother born in SC.
Mother in law, MICKIE A LADD, age 69, born in SC, parents born in SC, married 44 years, she has had 9 children, with 9 still living.
Niece, MAMIE L LADD, age 7, boron in AL, parents born in GA.
NOTE: It is very difficult to read this Census page - the writing is very "light".
I found EARL & his wife, JESSIE on the 1940 Poplar Springs North, DeKalb Co., Alabama Census, with their children, FREEMAN and BERTHA.
I am sorry that I could not help you solve the mystery of MITCHELL STRICKLAND, but I hope this helps in some way. Sincerely, Melinda
