Shouldn't managers be notified PRIOR to someone changing dod to yr BEFORE he wed?

I can't recall which ancestor, but I had entered his dob, dom (& her info) and dod ("uncertain"). Someone came in and changed his uncertain dod to 'dod/certain', but which showed he died the yr BEFORE he married. The person didn't chg anything else, not even the dom.

I didn't see any msg's or indication of merge, nor any explanation for the change.
I'm just wondering if mgr's should at least be consulted beforehand, or given the option to view the documentation (for comparison, possible name mixup) prior to the "correction"...which sometimes just isn't.

Hi Peggy and Welcome,

I agree that a profile manager should be consulted about a change.  But sometimes that just doesn't happen.

You can go to the changed profile and click on 'changes', that will tell you who made the change.  At that point you can message the individual who made the change and ask the question.

Also, if you will put the profile name and number into your question (you can do that by clicking the 'edit' below your question), most likely someone will check on it for you.

Thanks for coming to G2G and remember to come back whenever you have questions.
You've entered marriage information on Walton-2797, Davis-18068, Pearl-320, Pearl-164, Pearl-163, Walton-2797, Hedden-104, Pearl-162(your profile), Kirkby-118, Pearl-162(your profile), Pearl-162(your profile), Pearl-162(your profile), Pearl-162(your profile), Pearl-162(your profile), Hedden-81, Pearl-162(your profile), Robinson-7935

Which one?  I guess this is what is called an electronic signature and will show who changed the information.
Concur with Kristina about contacting the person who made the change. Keep the query focused in the data:

"Hi Jillaine, I have a question about a change you made to Smith-123 on Aug 5.  You changed his death date from 1947 uncertain to 1929 certain. A couple of problems with this: you included no source for the change you made; and the death date you added is several years before his documented marriage date. Please explain. Thanks."
I've been heavily involved in genealogy for 40 years. Some people are nice and some are not. Some go with the flow and some get their nose out of joint. I LOVE the collaborative nature of WikiTree. Findagrave was sometimes a nightmare because people felt they "owned" a person's profile, and I guess they did. But on WikiTree, even as managers of a profile, we don't "own" it. We allow others to have input. There are problems with this, but the benefits are enormous. When someone changes something on mine I disagree with, I don't take it off. I just put in the bio with explanation (and sources if available) of both dates. Please, let's not get territorial. Let's keep working together. Let's give everyone a place.

There has been a lot of discussion over whether active profile managers should be contacted before making changes like that.  But I don't think anyone will disagree that a source should be included.
