1870 US Census, TN. Thomas Johnson 79y b NC, Martha Johnson 81y b SC. Census taken in TN.
It appears all other details(yr,location, age, birthplace) are correct excepting the surname should read Johnston and not Johnson)

It appears he was married to Ellen mcfarlane abt 1810 and then Martha later. i do know that his son(my GGGF) Calvin b 1822 said in a letter 1866 that he had a step bro named william who had moved to marble hill Mo, near lutesville mo.

dec 2016 :This Thomas Johnston is likely the correct one.  nd the birth is calculated to be near enough to  1790. i only knew a wife by the name of Ellen mcfarland or farlane or mcfarland or macfarlane. Could be spelled Mc /mac farlain. I saw a clan of mcfarlane pafe yesterday and they were searching the Tn area and ran into Thomas ellen McFarlane johnston on the census roll (Ill look up year in a bit),but they moved when they excluded  Ellen MCFarland and Thomas Johnston, 23 Sep 1810. It is not unusual for spelling errors in documents. I found a deed of my 5th ggf Hudson Johnson in 1790, his name was spelled 4 different ways in the same deed.
