James Butler Walker born 1861 in Tennessee. Came to Texas before 1885. Married Mary Elizabeth Knoy in Johnson County Texas in 1885. Children: Georgia, James, Betty, Corbutt and Lee. He died in Cleburne, Johnson County Texas 1935.

He didn't talk about his past, but some think he came from Knoxville area and had a brother Bill, who came to Texas with him. This had been a big brick wall for me. Hope someone can help.

Thanks for the reply, however, I followed this James B and he didn't come to Texas. Wrong one. Thanks anyway.

Your James Butler might have something to do with AJB Walker and Sarah 1860 in Jackson co. His 1st wife had 3 sons  which I believe the names  were William s. Think he was the oldest then a J.B. and a Gremsley age 2. After the mother died the baby was living with Wm.C and Mary Walker ,grandparents. AJB(Jack) disappeared from my line after 1870 divorce from 2nd wife ,Sarah  with 3 sons as well, she received custody of her 3,maybe he went to Texas with the other kids. Steamboats were in the family. After doing some more research I'm really leaning to him. 1860 census Jackson co. Tn.Celina

Hope this helps.

It appears that there is a James B Walker, born about 1861 in TN, who has a wife named Mary, and they lived in Knoxville, TN at the time of the 1900 census.  But his brothers were Alex and John (according to the 1870 census), he had 3 daughters, Zola, Trula, and Zelda (1900, 1910, & 1920 census), and he died on 2 Sept 1925 in Knoxville, TN, so he doesn't appear to be your James Butler Walker.

There is another James B Walker, born about 1861 in TN, listed in the 1870 census in Cookville, Putnam County, TN with an older brother William J Walker, but it appears that he married a woman named Emily, and lived in TN after 1940.

Have you found his death record, or a marriage record for James Butler Walker and Mary Elizabeth Knoy?  Does it list where either of them are from?
