Mentors Tips - did you know you can place research notes directly to a profile?

Hiya!

During a recent discussion here on WikiTree someone suggested posting a section on a profile called Research Notes. What a great idea, and I wish I had thought of it myself.  My suggestion may be old news to all the WikiTree OLD timers but...

I am working on my spouses great grandfather, Alphonse Desjardins.  He has a lot of information on him because he was killed during a fire at the Canadian Parliament's Centre Block on February 3, 1916.  There's not a lot of information on his family though - found his father in one of the fire articles, but the fact that Alphonse Desjardins is like John Smith to us anglophones doesn't help things.

So I started a Research notes section under the sources section to keep track of what I have or have not found.  It's really helpful AND if another researcher comes along, they will see where my research is leading me!

Fine if it's your profile.  If you leave stuff on somebody else's profile, don't be too surprised if it's not there when you come back.
Excellent suggestion, Mags, as usual!

I thought we might have a style page recommending this, but I don't see one. It has been informally recommended.

I think a Research Notes section is an excellent way to encourage collaboration. If someone can complete the research or answer the outstanding questions, the notes should definitely be cleared as the work is completed.

By the way, RJ, I apologize if this sounds pedantic -- it's a pet peeve -- but a profile is never really "yours" or "mine." http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ownership_and_control
There's a song about that - "Don't tell I, tell 'e"
Thanks again for posting this, Mags. Here is a new style page officially recommending Research Notes sections. It could use some more fleshing out at some point. For now it points here and to a post from Magnus on the topic. http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Research_Notes
Oh no, no no, Thank you so much for following through with our ideas and making them "so". Mags
Good advice is also to add a timestamp when you do a comment in the Research line using four tilde
~~~~
==> Easier to follow research notes is my experience....
