I am a Stone family descendent. I have been unable to get far with my research. Below is the information as far as I can verify, starting with myself and going back.

Nancy Pearl Stone Durbin b Nov. 7, 1952

James Edward Stone b May 4, 1923 d Aug. 1, 1981

James Melvin Stone b July 2, 1894 d Nov. 7, 1946

Joseph Louis Stone b April 28, 1874 d May 2, 1950

On the death certificate of Joseph Louis it says his fathers name was Joseph Stone and mother as Susan Land-Abbeville GA.

The family story is that they were never married. I am not sure as I have never been able to confirm information regarding Joseph Stone(the father of Joseph L Stone) I have also gotten family information that Susan Land had another son, Jack possibly Jackson Stone. Joseph Louis Stone married James Anna Permenter and they lived in Clinch county GA. They are buried in Wayfare Primitive Baptist Cemetery, also known as Cow Creek. I have been told that Susan Land and Jack Stone are buried there, but with unmarked graves. I live in Washington State and it is not possible for me to ask  to see the member archives to see if their records are there. Any suggestions and or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You Nancy

This could be your Joseph L Stone, as the est. birth year is right.              familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K7L4-7Q8

This that is Joseph Louis Stone. I have the information regarding him. The Joe W Stone was his son and the one who gave the information for the death certificate. My problem is tracing his father. On the death cert. it merely says his father was Joseph Stone. I do not know where he lived or whether he and JLS mother were married. Family stories say no. She was from Abbeville GA. and the death certificate says that is where JLS was born. I do appreciate you assistance. Thank you
I private messaged Cheryl June 23, 2017 in regard to the notice I received of this Stone name project, but haven't heard back. Today I did post a comment on the Joshua Stone, Jr. page managed by Cheryl asking whether I was supposed to join the Stone project in order to add a profile for Joshua Stone III (I use Roman numerals to differentiate JS, Sr as I, JS, Jr. as II and JS III as son of Jr or Capt Joshua Stone as otherwise known) so I can add Joshua Stone III as the father of my direct ancestor John Stone (husband of Orra Janet Stone) who was born 1802 and eventually migrated to Texas, leaving Sylvannus Gibson Stone as a descendant there and Sylvannus' son John William Stone who was my great grandfather on my maternal line. I assume the lack of a profile for JS III (assuming I am not simply missing it) means you don't have good sources for it. I don't either, although I believe if you get a copy of Leila Stone's book on the East Texas Stones you will find reliable information on him (she may have gotten somewhat inaccurate as she pursued the line back to 1500's in England, but I believe she did a pretty good job in the continental US as a retired school teacher researching our family before there was an Internet---I lost my copy of her book years ago).
My stone ancestors trace back to Massachusetts in the 1600's. I don't know where they originated on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, but somewhere in England seems most likely. Both of my grandmothers have early Stone ancestors. My maternal grandmother was Sylvia Hemenway and my paternal grandmother was Edith Wetherbee.

There was an industrialist named Amasa Stone who contributed funds to establish Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. This school merged with Case Institute of Technology and became Case Western Reserve University. I don't know if I'm connected to this branch of the Stone family or not. Read more at  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amasa_Stone
HI Gary,
Just now was able to get to my messages, I had to go out of town on a family matter and do not take my laptop with me when I travel.
If you do not find a profile for a Family Member by all means create one and make sure you add any sources to prove your information.
You do not have to join any projects to do so.
I have been concentrating on my direct line and there are many missing profiles that are needed and your direct line seems to be one of them.
Joining the One Name Study and Stone Name Study is just others like ourselves, collaborating on sources and information that can be helpful on researching the Surname Stone.  Only join if you want to.
Best Regards,

Cheryl and Lynden, Would love to participate in your "Stone" name study.  I have my ancestor, Thomas Stone [Stone-6277] already on WikiTree.  This Thomas Stone lived and died in Brunswick County, Va.  Thomas was born in 1720 in London, England and came to Virginia in 1740, per his proof of importation given in court in Brunswick Co., Va.  Thomas died on 16 April 1795 in Brunswick Co., Va. leaving his will which names only the four (4) children by his second marriage to Margaret (Peggy) Wells.  Thomas had five (5) children by his first wife Phebe Price.  I have information on Thomas descendants, particularly the descendants of his son, Jesse Stone [Stone-6276].  Thomas has been recognized by the DAR with number: A110333; and Thomas' son, Jesse Stone has been recognized by the DAR with number: A110045.  Jesse Stone left Brunswick Co., Va about 1789 and settled in Edgefield Co., South Carolina by 1790, and died there 9 September 1842.  Jesse's descendants have scattered across the Southeastern part of the United States.  Hope I can be of assistance with the information I have on my 5th and 6th great grandfathers.

I have [[Stone-3311|Thomas Stone ]] 1710-1794 in Mersham, Kent, England, and as many of his [[http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Stone-Descendants-3311|descendants] as I can find. (he is my 6g-grandfather.

In additional to the usual sources (Family Search, Find My Past, etc) there is information about the Stones of Mersham in "MERSHAM DURING THE 18th & EARLY 19th CENTURIES" by Jenny Mills Originally self-published locally in 1995 and re-edited 2013

Hi, Janet! We hope you can find some of your answers through the Stone One Name Study at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Stone_Name_Study
Hi Janet,

Why don't you join us on the Stone Name Study found on the link Lynden listed,  Any and all information is Welcome and maybe we have something that help you in your research.  I am definitely interested in you line of Stone's.  I myself am connected to at least 2 known lines, always searching for more connections.

Look forward to working with you.

Regards, Cheryl
I must be "dense", but it isn't clear to me how to "join" the one name study, nor how to add my (Kent, England) line to the study.
Hi, Janet! You are not dense by any means. But it is quite a learning curve. If you have ever requested to become a trusted member of a profile, that is how you "join." The way you add your line is by entering particular templates that tag your profiles to the Stone Study. If you are still uncertain, let me know and I can walk you through the phone.

Hi!  I am Ron Hudson from Durham, NC, USA. My grandmother was a Stone from Robeson County, NC.  I have some information on the Stone line, but I do not have any sources beyond the 1850 census.  If my info would be helpful, let me know.

My grandmother was Emily Berttie Stone.  My great-grandfather was Winfield Scott Stone and his father was Joel Stone.  From there it goes to Elias B. Stone> Samuel Addison Stone> Benjamin Stone > Joshua Stone.  I am not certain of  the last 2 in that list, but I have DNA matches to people through Samuel Addison Stone, at least.

Hi, Ron! Both I and Cheryl are descended from This same line. Check out some links at the Stone One Name Study here at WikiTree: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Stone_Name_Study

We look forward to working with you.
Hi Ron,

Why don't you join us on WikiTree and then the Stone Name Study found on the link Lynden listed,  Any and all information is Welcome and maybe we have something that help you in your research.  WikiTree is totally free and a wonderful way to find additional family and branches to your tree.

I believe that the Census for 1880 and 1890 were lost due to fire, only about 3% saved and from what I could find out none of the Stone family information from Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee or Kentucky was saved.

Again Like Lynden said look forward to working with you.

Regards, Cheryl

Looks like you are from my direct Stone LIne;

I do have one line of descent from a Stone. My 2x great grandmother Mary Stone in East Devon, England. I haven't gotten too far with her ancestry. So far I have just her father and her siblings. But since the siblings were mostly girls, the name disappeared. There were 2 boys in the family. One son had no kids. The other son may have had children named Stone, but so far I haven't found them.

Yes, I am researching the Stone family.  We are stuck on Benjamin Stone who married Sarah Royal(l) in Canada in 1842,   She returned to Dover(-Foxcroft) Maine with the children in 1864 after he passed away.  He died Sept 27 1864.  They lived in Baker Brook but also there is mention of Little Falls (currently Edmunston) presumably because it was nearby for medical attention etc.  I am descended from their son Thomas Charles Stone who married Adella Myrtle Weeks.  Their son Walter Samuel was my grandfather.
