Hi all, I have profiles that immigrated from the Netherlands at at least three branches (Breen- Mastenbroek- adopted Aalfs) to Iowa the Plymouth Area. Seems quite popular for the Dutch those days.:)  I would like to categorize them on that. There are early settlers between. I m sure people looking for them . Any Admin can make a category for dutch that went to Iowa please?? Thank you lots! "A maximum of 6 surnames allowed"

Astrid,

The the categories for Plymouth County, Iowa have been set up.

In general it would be best to use the town name - so for example the place of death for  Jacobus Aalfs  would be the category; Category: Akron, Iowa

I went ahead and added it to his profile.  I also added the cemetery category which had also been set up

Category: Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa

A new category has also been created

Category: Dutch Immigrants to Iowa  Note if the Iowa category is used the higher level category, Dutch Immigrants to America, should not be use.

Thank you lots Phillip. Do I understand this righ:; Best to take the place they died or better to take the townn they lived as they are different? Hmmmmm, easier to keep it for all the same, so I think deathplace then?

Although for some, the Townships they lived are even known. f.i.Lincoln Township. What would you advice there?

I understand I can now delete the category Dutch immigrants to USA at the Iowa settlers. I added them as there wasnt a Dutch immigrants to Iowa category.

There are no categories for the cemeteries at Le Mars?

And I m very happy with the category Dutch Immigrants to Iowa. :) And ty for adding to Jacob. That looks great with the | in between. :)

Thank you Phillip.
Astrid,

There is no problem with having multiple location categories.  Birth, death and multiple living locations are all fine.

If a record has a township name - that certainly can be added.  Many townships are set up - not all - if they need to be added and you wish some assistance - just ask - G2G is best.

My use of the town name for death was simply to use a town, the low level rather than the county level as the lowest level possible should be used.
Clear :) Thank you.

I can t make categories. So I always have to ask right? :p

Should I make a list of townships or cemeteries for you I would like?

And just curious: What if I put a "red" category on a profile. Do leaders get that in a list mabey?

Dinnertime!

Thank you Phillip.

Astrid,

Yes - members of the categorization project review a list of red - or Wanted Categories and set them up - we are sometimes slow so asking in G2G will move things along a little more quickly.

Anyone can set up categories - instructions are on the Categorization help pages.  There are lots of examples - the best way to learn I think, and links to much more information.

And it is always fine to ask in G2G.  If you wish to set up your own categories one method is go ahead and do it for one profile and then ask in G2G if it is right - that makes corrections easy and after two or three you will be comfortable.

Bea told me I can make categories than I read somewhere I can t. Restricted to leaders. So thank you for the links Phillip.

1 I like to do things right. Work done  wrong is waisted time. So I like to be pointed although I hate to ask over and over as it feels like bothering. My questions prolly asked 1 million times before.......  I know all saying they don t feel bothered. :)  Luv all at Wiki for that.

2 Doing things by myself make me learn. So will make me ask less. I like that. :D

3. You re all very helpful and kind and wanna thank you for that.

4. Last question I posted before at G2G but never got it answered and hope you can. Some are thanking me for posts at G2G. I don t get how to thank one at G2G besides just replying and get it here http://prntscr.com/8s4mvn

Thank you Phillip :) for helping me.
Reading at adding new Categories....... it already looks like I will bother you more. :D Bea told me to look at Categories as WikiTree is a big book.

Categories are made to find peeps easier right? If I m looking for descendents of Iowa I can type category Iowa or even a place there and find them more easy. That s the purpose of the categories or?
Astrid,

The purpose of categories is what you make them.  I think of it as an index - so I look at a cemetery and see a list of those buried there - I may or may not be interested in a particular name but there is a good chance that if one is a family member others will be.

When you look at the categorization project pages and examples you see all kinds of categories - some may make it easier to find family members some are just interesting.

I think the best way to learn how to create a category is to read the material - don't worry if it all does not make sense and take your best shot on a profile then ask in G2G - it usually only takes a few minutes to review a new category if it is a town or cemetery.

There is a good chance that your question is actually the same as someone else's - but they did not ask so having an answer actually helps more than yourself - others have a chance to learn and that benefits us all.

If you click on the name of the person that posted a question it brings you to their G2G profile page.  The activity for that person is shown and there is where you can click a Thank You.
Reading..... :D
:))))))))))))))))) again ty Philip with one l. I m sorry. You re great!
And have to click a name fast/immediately I see as I can t thank you now by clicking your name :D Back to see how I can make categories as I got what you and Bea meant now I think.
