Trying to locate family Bible found in California, now lost.

Hi, hoping you have ideas or connections that will help. Several years ago I received this email in response to a very old post on a genealogy website. I was very busy at the time and waited a few weeks to respond because I needed to provide adequate information from my files to verify that this is my family.

In the meantime, apparently, Bill Chan died. After several attempts to email him, I searched online and found an obit for apparently this man, but could  not locate/contact the next of kin. Is there anyway to post in California somewhere to see if this Bible is now in other hands? I'm afraid the relatives may have just tossed it.

If nothing else I would like to post the information on a genealogy website for Love researchers. Can you help?

From Bill Chan

I think I have one of the missing links.  I found this old bible from the
1830's in Berkeley.  Hopefully, this email still works.

It belonged to William J. Love and Ann Eliza Suanders(sic), married in 1933 (sic).  [He was not a good typist...another reason to want to see the original!]

Children:

William James Love, 1835
Richard Saunders Love, 1836
Winfield Scott and Edward Love, 1838
Maria Theresa Love, 1839
Sidney Deems Love, 1842
Charles Stedman Love, 1846
John Brown Love, 1848
George Franklin Love, 1851
Ann Brown Love, 1854

It also has a few other births through 1885 and a number of marriages
(William's 1865, Richard's 1871, Charles' 187x, and John's 187y) and deaths,
including Ann Eliza Saunders death in 1866.

If this is the right family, I'd like to return the bible to where it
belongs.

Cheers - Bill

There are a lot of clues that could help in the naming of the children, particularly the second names.  I am a Love of Scotland descendant and researcher so may be able to help if you are still searching..  Bringing family bibles home to their families is one of my passions.  There is a bible society that advertise found bibles on eBay with the only purpose other than collecting shipping costs is exactly that.

Thank you so much,

I will start checking E-Bay weekly.

Have not researched my Love or Usher lines beyond North Carolina, but believe the Loves came to eastern NC from Pennsylvania. I had not done any family research for more than five years when I received the email from Mr. Chan, and don't really have the time nor money to pursue it now. But feel so badly to have had this clue and perhaps lost it forever.

My Ushers came from Ireland, beginning in 1802, but have found no trace of them in the area they claim to have come from...Stradbally in Queen's County. Even hired a professional genealogist in Ireland to help, with no luck.

Odd origin, given that they took up shipping and slave trading when they arrived in Wilmington. That Stradbally is land-bound. Where would they have learned shipping?  Perhaps Stradbally in Northern Ireland.
