Are you sure it's Ireland? Cairns sounds more Scottish. Have you got any other information whatsoever?

I am research ing Cairns [ Carnes in my home area Ind & Ohio ]  Fro my research I have found many Cairns in ' Ireland'   There are many in Northern Ireland  Counties Derry, Tyrone, Belfast, Antrim & Armagh plus others.  Cairns Scottish folks were sent to live and populate Ulster  Plantations in  N. Ire by King James 1600 to 1700s as he was not sure they would enjoy Engish rule.

My search is for John Carnes and wife Ann Bell' home village.   Her brother James Bel & wife Isabelle Carnes immigrated to Pa then Ohio during 1800 - 1840  First Washington Pa then on to Liberty Twp Guernsey Co Ohio   Thanks Charlene

I am a Carnes from Indiana. My Carnes/Charnes married the Bell in French Lick IN and are buried in Mt Lebanon Cemetery. I have been researching the many Carnes lines since I cannot figure out who my 5th GGF is. My 4th GGF is Josiah Asbury Charnes b. 17 Jan 1810 KY died 1855 in Dubois Co IN

Cairns was Scottish but migrated to Ireland some to England. Before it was de Cairnis it was De Erskine de Cairnis. There is a book containing the Carnes genealogy located in Scotland but also published called History of Family of Cairnes Carnes and their families by H.C. Lawlor.
I since found out my 5th GGF is Alexander Carnes. It could be a siblings of his. Have you tried familysearch.org? I have had some help on there w census records, church records
