Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Who have you discovered for the 1776 Project?

Two centuries and two score years ago the idea that a people could rule themselves was soon declared self-evident.  Yet the men and women living in 1776 Colonial America had no idea that their descendants would devote enormous amounts of precious discretionary time trying to find, understand, document and honor their lives through the 1776 Project on WikiTree.

Now over 180 volunteers strong, the members of the 1776 Project have identified 2200 Veterans of the American Revolutionary War and 800 Patriots who provided service for and against the cause of Liberty.  We have recognized Patriots, Loyalists, Hessians, French, Women, Young and Old and many others who played a role in settling this grand argument.

We have been sorting Sons of Liberty, British Generals, Founding Fathers and discussing Minute Men, Colonial Militia, and Continental Regulars.

We continue helping each other find the sources, family histories and documentary evidence that help passionate descendants shout, “Yes, you were there!”

We are crafting the biographies and linking friends and enemies in the grand family tree that brings us all together as one.

And, it is with great appreciation that we recognize the vision of WikiTree Leader, Kitty Smith which has provided us with the honorable opportunity to breath life back into our many ancestors who lived, loved, scarified and died during this tumultuous time by creating the 1776 Project on WikiTree.

Now sit up straight, crack those fingers and work your keyboards, we have many more stories to find and many more families to unite.

Shout your victories!

Join us in this ancestral cause!

Join the 1776 Project without delay!

Very well done at that! Mags
Fantastic post, Michael! It's inspiring. Very well-worded.
An interesting fact about the American Revolution, only 3% of the population actively took an active part in the fight against the British,  it's one reason this government is so afraid right now.  over 40% of the population is very disgruntled about the loss of freedom in this country.

Actually your knowledge could be very handy in working out the relationships with the Dutch involvement in the American Revolutionary War.

My own ancestor, Joachim Wycoff has Dutch Roots and has been recognized through the 1776 Project.  There are many more to be sure.

Michael.......... the sources 1 and 2 don t bring me anywhere to gather info at Joachim Wycoff  . I will look into it tomorrow :D http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Claesz-4 was from Germany. I m Dutch (the Netherlands) but where he lived is close to the Netherlands. Will have a big look at it tomorrow. :)

Names look Dutch. Willempje is Dutch not German. (I m born German). Hope I can help you tomorrow. Sleeping time here. :D

Had a short look at it......... firstnames are soo Dutch........ everywhere. Finding Wijkof s in Dutch Archives at New Amsterdam...... you re into it......... look at it they re from the 18th century. Are they related? https://www.wiewaswie.nl/personen-zoeken/zoeken/q/Wijkof. It can be set to ENglish at top........

In English I hope:

https://www.wiewaswie.nl/en/search/search-results/q/Wijkof

It s said........... just keep it as a lead, not a Source!!! Like gossip :) some might be true :) Pieter Claesen Cornelissen, Pieter Claesen Wyckoff was born at

Christening

Date:

6 January 1625 (6 JAN 1625)

Place:

Boda, Isle Of Oland, Holland

That sounds very Dutch. But we don t have a place nor an island with that name. It leads me to scandinavia............ ????

Marriage

Spouse:

Margrietje van Nes

Date:

3 May 1646 (3 May 1646)

Place:

Bethlehem, Albany, New Yorki

Her name very Dutch. :) K giving up for now......... as there are very contrary  things on the net about this fam :D ANDDDDDDDDDDD I love that. Night for now.

Astrid, you are right, German (Friesland) not Dutch.  There is a lot of discussion going on about Pieter Claesen Wyckoff.  Read this profile closely as there is a lot of questionable information.  Spend some time with the linked G2G discussion and read much of the comments section.   His parents are unknown.  William Wykoff has a lot of new research on him that is proving difficult to have accepted.

Thank you. Will tomorrow. There is an Ost Friesland at Germany. We have to check that out. Will read discussion. And have faith we will get as far as we can get. Some might just not be able to proof ( yet) with sources

Hi Michael,

I dived into the Wijckhoff's but so far to many possible van wijckhoff's here. Searched all in Brouwershaven to find Metje Hapertsen(who s name I found to be Hermans)  in baptize or marriage. Nothing so far as I search on her firstname and on the Hapertsen. As that is a uncommen lastname here I wanted to find her baptize.

I was lucky in the Amsterdam Stadsarchief, went searching there as there was a lead she was born in Amsterdam. But on her lastname: 0 so went for her children back to Brouwershaven. :D Well I just found them in Amsterdam. I added sources and an image of the baptize of Trijntje http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Claessen-2 and Herpert http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Van_Schouwen-6 to the profiles.

At least we have some good images of the right names. Especially the LNAB of Metje. I think that should be changed to Hermans.

I don t know if they have bounderies to Brouwershaven. So far I couldn t find anything on Claes or Metje there. But I will try again on the name LNAB of Metje. The last name of van der Goes and van Schouwen are in Zeeland, Nederland (as people added the place they came from to their last name it s most likely we must be able to find them there) where Brouwershaven is too.

BTW the profile of Metje is a big mess with trice a Biography and Sources etc. It s Project Protected so I didn t want to change anything but added the sources and the image of the baptize. But I think it can use a clean out.

In the names of all are many leads. I hope I will find more. :D

Much thanks to Kitty and to all involved in this project. Thank you Michael for this great report of the progress of the project.

When I run across an ancestor profile that I know was in the American Revolution or assisted in the effort and that has another profile manager, is it OK to add them to the project, even though I am not the profile manager?

Yes, we are a Wiki.  Just make sure the sourcing is there to support the template.  And be sure to leave a comment for the PM. Thanks Amy!
Call me if you need me Michael. As all active here I m happy to help if I can. :)
