Marriage of Richard Eakins who married Maria Martin(?) 1897 County Longford/ Cavan

I am looking any help anyone could give with this section of my family.

I am looking for the marriage of a Richard Eakins to a Maria. If my research is correct she is likely nee Martin and the sister of my great great grandmother Catherine 'Kitty' Jackson nee Martin.

According to the census entry for Richard and Maria they were born in County Cavan and Longford respectfully. As their first three children were born in Cavan I believe they must have married in either Longford or Cavan. They were listed as married for 14 years in the 1911 census and therefore their marriage was in and around 1897.

There  were a number of young deaths on this side of my family and children sent to live with cousins and aunties so it has been difficult to trace this side of my family. There obviously might be variants of the names as they have common alternative spellings. I'm interested in trying to use the marriage certificate to trace Maria's parents. Both Richard, Maria and my great great grandmother are buried in the same grave plot

Hi Aaron

Yes, you are correct.  There is a marriage registered in the Irish Civil records.

Marriage of RICHARD EAKINS and MARIA MARTIN
on 16 November 1897

Group Registration ID 2322302
SR District/Reg Area Longford

You can order a copy of that certificate directly from the Irish Government web site :

http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/bdm/Certificates/

And....was it possible that YOUR Richard was married before Maria?  There was another marriage a few years earlier:

That is them! Thank you so much, another piece added to the puzzle. He could possibly have been married before. I genuinely can't thank you enough- most of my family I've research through GRONI, those links will come in very usual indeed for records in the Republic.

Aaron

Hi Aaron

You are very welcome and I am so glad that this was helpful.  I have found this web site:

http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

to be very useful for finding the index references for Civil records, among other things.

Good luck with your research!

Hi Frank,

Many thanks for the quick response, but I should have added that Richard died on 11 August 1917 and Maria on 1st March 1916. So sadly it's not the same Richard.

Regards,

Aaron
