Is Taulbee Combs a descendant of Soldier John?

I have a document roadblock in my Combs family tree, and it is my great grandfather Taulbee Combs.  I have not been able to confirm a lot of things about Taulbee due to inconsistent documentation, variety of Combs sharing his father's name, and no found information about his mother.   I just had my father take the Y-34 test for Christmas so that we can try using genetics to help.  Family stories say that we are descendants of one of Soldier John Combs, but I can't find documentation to  prove or disprove those stories

Any insight any of you may have would be greatly appreciated!

I've dug and dug on this fellow.  I am unable to find any record for Edward besides the 1880 Census.  Most other researchers have him as son of Russell and Dicey Polly Combs, but I found some contradictory information regarding this information.  Supposedly, according to other researchers, this Edward was lynched in 1883.  Now this could explain why we can not find further Census records for him.

Question for you...what is the source of your DOB/DOD.  And if you can, add a direct link to his profile to the document or source.  Ancestry isn't open so I can't see the info that you have listed.

Also, from the one website, I went through and gleaned all of the Edward's and posted their info on his profile.

I would suggest that you reach out to these researchers to see if they can assist further because I am at a standstill.

Let me know what you find and good luck!
I just added a link to a Google doc file with all of my source material and research for Taulbee in his bio.

I believe that he is not from Russell Hacker's line, but instead one of Russell's uncles' lines.  We are leaning strongly to Mason Combs.

LOL:  So I was quoting your website.  Have you contacted the genealogy society in Letcher?  I've found that this is a good starting point.  First, if your Edward was Russel's son, with the lynching there should be more info published about him (his family, wife, etc)...Thanks for posting back and please keep me apprised!  :)
Tracie and other family hunters,
Taulbee's son, Buford has always said that his dad when he, Buford was a boy. The year of birth for Taulbee may indeed be 95 that would put Buford at age 9 or so.
Buford and Bernard are both Taulbee and Laura Baker Combs' sons. Taulbee was Laura's 3rd husband. She only had children with 3 of the possible 6 husbands. Baker, Barnes and Combs. She had many step children.

Some men lied about their ages to get into military. Bernard combs claimed to be 2 years older so he could go to war.

Buford had 14 children that I can prove via his oldest daughter, my mother, Margaret D. Combs and our cousin Angela Combs, daughter of Bernard Combs.

We have Jewish in our blood found to be Ruthie Duke Combs' mother Jennie Duke. We carry a gene that is rare in USA. Israel and the middle east it is more common. It's GAG that causes Hurler dz. Chemo, bone marrow transplant, getting blood and platelets are the treatment, no cure. I'm unable to locate Ruthie's mother, Jennie's maiden name or her husbands first name 1st name. There is a picture of Taulbee wearing a yamaka. For respect, the son of the mother that is Jewish, wears a yamaka.  My Aunt Beverly has the picture. She passed Dec 20, 2015 and everything she has found out is in a storage facility that her daughter has access to, but yet has agree to let me come and locate this info,

Taulbee was born in VA according to his marriage license. I have a copy. He was a mine worker and later a hangman hired through WPA. (Pres. FDR had WPA founded to help people for work  in 1935 due to The Great Depression). Taulbee was buried in Seco, a mining town, in Letcher Co, KY, behind Seco Freewill Baptist Church on 05AUG1940. Another reason as to us being Jewish is they believe to get the body in the ground ASAP.

My grandmother, Betty Williams Combs, had all her children's DOB and death dates in her open front paper of her bible. Again, I will be locating these once I have permission to go through totes and boxes to locate these items from our tree.

Buford Combs had 14 children. I have all names and DOB.

There is a Combs Cemetery. Unknown location or who is buried there. I will be online to locate it in the next 1-2 weeks.

I will update on here as well as on myheritage.com

Please contact me at bleuestump@gmail.com with questions or info. Thanks!!!
