Hi! I just posted a new section to Robert Peyton's page, with a Note at the top of the profile. I intend to change Robert's death date from March 15, 1686, given by Richardson in Magna Carta Ancestry, to "after Nov. 24, 1696" based on new information provided by a Peyton researcher/descendant of his son Robert.

I don't want to catch anyone by surprise when I make the change (later tonight or tomorrow).

Cheers, Liz

Why not post the information on the profile comments.  All the profile managers will get your message and a discussion could be started.
I posted on the profile too, but Robert Peyton is a fairly significant immigrant. Posting in G2G, tagged with Magna Carta & Southern Colonies, spread the word to those projects. Cheers, Liz
I expect Richardson got his info from the Chamberlain book, and assumed it was reliable.  But there's a skeleton in the Peyton family cupboard, the false claim to the baronetcy.  Lies get told on these occasions.  Sometimes documents get destroyed as well.

Update: Death date was changed from March 15, 1686 to after Nov. 24, 1696 with a section to support the change in the text.

Of interest... I was looking for the source of a quote about Peter Beverley (who married Robert Peyton's daughter) & found that his father, Robert Beverley, died March 15, 1686 according to Crozier's Virginia heraldica : being a registry of Virginia gentry entitled to coat armor, with genealogical notes of the families (p 74). Crozier also has Robert Beverley as husband of Mary Keeble, who is shown as wife of Robert Peyton by some (source cited in WikiTree profiles is Peytons of Virginia II, Volume 2, Page 2).

As an aside (and to avoid confusion, if someone looks at the Beverley profile) -

According to Patricia Hatcher writing for American Ancestors Journal in 2012, p 353, Robert Beverley's death was 15 March 1686/7  AmericanAncestors.org

So just today, I changed the form at the top of his profile to 1687.

Thanks! Also fyi - I sent an e-mail to Douglas Richardson about the change of death date.

Cheers, Liz
Richardson (MCA2 3:257) says he lived in Matthews Co 1683-91.  Apparently Hayden got that from the Kingston parish register, 1691.  But he refers to "Mr Robert Peyton" and another 1691 entry mentions Capt Robert Peyton, so it's not clear who thinks who is talking about which Robert.
Thanks RJ (and... p 357: Magna Carta Ancestry 2nd ed., Vol 3, p 357).

I somehow missed that disconnect (of the entry for Major Robert Peyton stating "He resided in North River Parish, Matthews County, 1683-91." followed immediately by "[MAJOR] ROBERT PEYTON, Gent., died 15 March 1686.")

The transcription of the 1714 deed is clear that the will for Robert, father of Robert, was dated Nov. 24, 1696. (Transcriptions posted on father's page: www.wikitree.com/wiki/Peyton-434#Death )

Since there seems to be some controversy about the death date, does the date of death make any difference to other facts, i.e. by living longer Robert Payton was able to marry another bride, father another child, lose his fortune, etc?
