John's convict sentencing papers show his native place of birth as Bristol, Somerset in England and DoB 9th October 1799. In September 1819 he was sentenced in the Kent Assizes and sent to Tasmania. Commissioned research has turned up no desired results.

There is a John Robinson Baptised Oct, 6 1799 at Newton Heath,All Saints, Parish ,Manchester,England. Not unusual for Baptism date being       confused with birth date.I did not find a map of 1799,of Somerset. The

other issue is sometimes people lied about there past,

His father was Thomas Robinson,Mother Jane Robinson.

Look for Newton Heath,All Saints Parish Map.

There is also a christening record for a John Robinson in Bristol, its later then the birth date, but sometimes these could be a while after.

Name John Robinson
Event Type Baptism
Christening Date 12 Jul 1807
Christening Place Bristol, Somerset
Father's Name Thomas Robinson
Mother's Name Elizabeth Robinson
Affiliate Publication Number RG4_1360

CITING THIS RECORD

"England and Wales Non-Conformist Record Indexes (RG4-8), 1588-1977," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQB1-GCM : accessed 4 February 2016), John Robinson, 12 Jul 1807, Baptism; citing p. 78, Bristol, Somerset, record group RG4, Public Record Office, London.

I also checked Sommerset records could not find any John born/christened between 1790 and 1809, but the Gloucestershire records do have several Johns born/christened between those date, Bristol records tend to be with the records from Gloucs. The surnames do vary but I have found that with my Robinson family.

* John Robinson 1792 Bristol Walter and Catherine (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NNQ7-CJ3)

I would be hesitant to say that he was from Manchester if you have records saying Bristol, as its such a distance.
