An introduction to Me

Hello, my name is Michael Hammond. I just joined WikiTree and started a profile this last month. Presently, I am maintaining profiles (or plan to) for surnames Hammond, Coble, Buntzler, Jenkins, and Biddle (though I probably will be looking for some McGeorges, Stevens, and Row/Rowes). I'm lucky on my Hammond side that there already is a book that covers my branch of the Hammond family, but it looks like I'm going to have to put my nose to the grindstone with the Buntzler/Jenkins/Biddle side...as I didn't see any links here to my specific relatives, though I thank the powers that be that there are still people alive in that side of the family I can still ask about their great grandparents.

My Great Grandmother was Belva Hammond from Orange Co Indiana her father was Charles Elsworth Hammond his father was William Hammonds
Angela, I don't immediately recognize those Hammonds, but there are a lot of Hammonds out there. When I clicked on your name, I'm sure I saw your photo before, somewhere else. I just don't recall what I was searching for when your photo came up. I also know of someone who is looking for a Charles Hammond (1764-1845), who is related to me according to Family Tree DNA, though we haven't determined a link beyond 2nd-4th cousin.

Hello Michael,

Welcome to WikiTree...you sure hit the ground running and have produced some nice profiles...you will be a great addition to the WikiTree family. Just a small point...I notice you use the postal abbreviation for state names...to a Canadian guy like me CA= Canada, NB= New Brunswick etc. There is a help page that gives you the suggested way of adding place names. http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Location_Fields

Hope that's helpful.

Brett, are you saying that I shouldn't say something like "Wenatchee, WA" but instead say "Wenatchee, Washington" or "Wenatchee, Washington, USA"?

My grandfather Buntzler is from Switzerland. Is saying "Chur, Switzerland" good enough, or should I mention something about it being in the Canton of Graubunden, and the District of Plessur? I'm not entirely sure if those were the cantons and the districts back in 1897, since I'm got that information from relatives.
Exactly with the Washington example! I'm not familiar with the Swiss place names...but I'm sure some one here is. And please don't worry if its perfect or not just thought I would share a hint that often new members aren't aware of.

The Descendants of Albrecht Kobel was published (limited) in 2012, tracing the family back to Switzerland in 1385.

Michael, welcome to Wikitree.

It turns out that you and I are 10th cousins once removed, through George Downing in 16th century England, who was my ninth great-grandfather.

You mentioned the name Biddle. There were numerous Biddles in my ancestry, beginning with William Biddle. My grandmother's maiden name was Biddle.

Good luck with your genealogical hunting.
