Is anyone related to Ernest Philip Hargraves, born about 1877?

Hi, I have just joined WikiTree and I don't really know my way around.

My interest is in tracing my maternal grandparents, who so far have eluded me in about 8 years of research. I am in the process of uploading my small gedcom file, but briefly, my maternal grandmother (Olive Blanche Clark, b 1891 in Melbourne, Australia) was adopted. We have found what we believe is her birth documentation, no father is named and her mother was a young unmarried mother who gave the name of Mary McDonald.

My grandfather was Ernest McQuillan Hargraves, born sometime about 1879, but the birth details he gave (born in Lincoln UK to Francis Hargraves and Mary McQuillan) appear to be false. The only couple of that name I can find lived in Victoria, where Ernest first appears on the record (when he married Olive in 1913), but DNA testing has shown that I am not related to Mary.

I am therefore interested in the Ernest Philip Hargraves (born about 1877 in New Zealand) who comes up in a search on this site. It is feasible he could be "my" Ernest.

So my question is - someone obviously put this Ernest in your records, but I don't know how to find that person and see if we can find any connection. e.g. I have photos, autosomal DNA for myself and a maternal cousin and other paper information. Can someone help me please?

Thanks.

If you go to the profile for http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hargraves-138 & click on the "Changes" Tab you will see who added his details to WikiTree.

NZ vital records can be searched here: https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/

I located a death registration in NSW for Olive Blanche Hargraves Ref. #10746/1981. Father: John James Duncan & Mother: Charlotte.

There is another marriage for Ernest McQ Hargraves to Gertrude M. Aldridge in Sydney, NSW Ref. #14141/1924.

In the 1914 Electoral Roll of Brighton, Victoria: Ernest Philip Hargraves & Cornelia Eleanore Hargraves - both of "Quelthala", 89 New st, Brighton - he was a "min. eng."

Hi Vivian, thanks for that information, it helps me find my way around.

It seems from the information you give me(the 1914 electoral roll) that this is not the same Ernest as the one I am searching for, which is a pity, but information nevertheless. But at least I now know how to check who added the details in the future.

Thanks again.
