How do I update a gedcom file?

I have updated my family tree through MyHeritage.com and would like to upload to WikiTree.

I have created a GedCom file.

A GEDCOM can be used to create new profiles but is not meant to be used to update the information in existing profiles.  That needs to done manually.
Wow!!!

So, do I need to review my previously uploaded file, check it against my revised and updated tree, and then manually update.

This could take forever and very frustrating!!!

Ideally I would like to maintain an accurate family tree and upload or amend to reflect changes.

I will now have to consider my next steps.

How do I know as to when I uploaded my initial family tree?

Thank you.

Tim, at the top left of this screen should be a Blank Search box, you can search almost any topic :)

I know Zero about gedcoms, except what I have read, to try to help others.

Hi Tim, Do not dispair; it isn't too bad.  This page shows all of your contributions to the WikiTree.  http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&who=Lyne-83  Your last contribution was a gedcom that was at the gedcompare stage.  It does not appear that you completed the upload process.  I think only the edits you added manually are actually on the WikiTree. Email Eowyn@wikitree.com if you need clarification.

That said, please know that your contributions to the one world WikiTree are a gift to the WikiTree community.  Other people will work on your contributed profiles to improve them with more sources, pictures, stories, and additional family members.  Your twig on the WikiTree can not be "updated" by a new gedcom because we do not want to lose the improvements that others have contributed to the profiles.  Your gedcom would create new duplicate profiles that would need to be manually merged with the pre-existing profiles.  Merging is a lot of extra work. That is why you  must skip adding any profiles for people that already have a leaf on the WikiTree.  We don't need duplicates.  We need to improve the existing profiles and add new profiles only for people that are not on the WikiTree.

Thanks for your contributions.  We are glad you want to update WikiTree with new information!
