My grandmother and grandfather were both Vaughts. John Smith Vault was my grandmother's (Ethel W. Vaught) grandfather. I believe he was the son of Joseph Vaught and Nancy Goodwin. His wife (as shown) was Rebecca Shoun. Among their children was David Henry Vaught, my grandmother's father. At one time, the Vaught's had a farm of considerable size in Johnson County, TN. The area was known as "Vaughtville". Over time, the family sold off parcels and the farm became much smaller. As a little boy, I visited that farm which my Uncle Raymond Vaught (grandmother's brother) worked.
