How best to combine sources from Ancestry and FindmyPast

Hi,

I have a fairly big tree on Ancestry with lots of Ancestry sources and a fair number of sources added from elsewhere on the internet.

I recently also got a subscription to FindmyPast. Ancestry still has many more sources than it does, but there are places - the 1939 Register, Westminster City records, records from British India and now Irish Quaker records - where FindmyPast has lots that Ancestry doesn't.

Adding to and correcting my Ancestry tree using searches on FindmyPast is OK, but maintaining the source data so that it will for example pass to Wikitree is far too much work to be practical.

Does anyone know how to manage this? For example, is there any 3rd party software that can maintain trees, search on Ancestry and FindmyPast, add sources from both and upload results back to Ancestry?

All ideas welcome.

Many thanks,

Given that Ancestry and FindMyPast are commercial sites, I don't think it would be in their interests to provide such a facility. And although it would be quite feasible to do it as an open source project, it would require access to their databases; I can't see that happening either. If you've uploaded an Ancestry GEDCOM to WikiTree, you would know how hard they make things.

You are probably right, but I am not quite sure. For example you can search Ancestry and FindmyPast directly from FamilySearch. You can load gedcoms from Ancestry to RootsMagic (also from the Mormons and also free in its basic form) and use them to look at hints in FindmyPast, as well as to produce subset Gedcoms to upload to Wikitree. You can't yet use the FindmyPast hints to add sources to RootsMagic, but the Mormons hint that they are working on this.

Rootsmagic is taking over FamilyTreeMaker, which can sync with Ancestry and say that they are working to integrate the two.

If/when they have finished integrating FamilyTreeMaker and incorporating source records from FindmyPast, then we might be most of the way there.

I just wondered whether any other software like FamilyTreeMaker could do this already.
