Ancestors of James Shelley 1852 - 1913

Question

This regards my great great great paternal grandfather James Shelley, I have very limited information about his existence (born approx 1852, died approx 1913, married Alice King and had at least one son: Bertram on Sep 25 1892).

The dates of birth and death are estimates, no recorded date of marriage, no idea of who the parents are and if he had any siblings.

According to the 1901 Census of Prittlewell, Essex, Bertie Shelley age 8, born at Prittlewell, was the son of:

James SHELLEY, head, married, age 38, Stone Mason, born Ulting, Essex & Alice SHELLEY, wife, married, age 37, born Spitalfields, London

Bertie was 1 of 8 children listed.

They will still living in Prittlewell in 1911 - James' birthplace: Ulting.

In 1891, James' birthplace was listed as Romford, Essex.

Haven't been able to pin him down in 1871 & 1881. There is a Birth registration for James SHELLEY in the June quarter of 1863 at Witham 4a 311 - Ulting is in Witham registration district.

There is a possible death registration in the March quarter of 1931: James SHELLEY age 67 ; Romford ; 4a 597.

The 1911 Census lists Jame's wife of 29 years to be Alice, born Spitafield, Middlesex.

Indeed Jame's marriage in 1882 was registered in Holborn, Middlesex (Holborn 1b/1181 q December 1882), his spouse Alice Elizabeth Barratt.

Alice's birth was registered 1863 (Whitechapel 1c/343 q December 1863)
