Is anyone out there good at dating photos?

I am trying to date this photo so that I can narrow down who the "unkown boy" may be. The adult is my grandfather William, born 1882. My guess is that he is around 30. Are there any experts who are able to give an estimate based on the clothing or hairstyles?

The photo would most likely have been taken in Sydney or Bathurst NSW.
