Introduction

Question

Hi everyone. I'm Lindsey, living in Stoke on Trent. I started on my family tree a couple of months ago out of curiosity and am now deeply fascinated with it.

I have a lot of research already to add but first of all need to have a good look at how the site works and have a look what this gedcom is I've seen mentioned :-)

Willing to help anyone in any way I can and looking forward to discovering our pasts. x

My surname before marriage was/is Martin and I have many with this name and others through marriage(s) in my tree(s). Perhaps, I can help you with yours? Both my parents immigrated to the USA from Canada in the mid-1930's.

Welcome Lindsey. There are no Martins in my line that I have found so far but I will adopt you as an honorary cousin.

Welcome Lindsey! My Dad's mom was a Martin, born in Mississippi. My Martin brick wall is still in the States: William Martin, born Halifax County, North Carolina in 1795. (My tree's public, so I think you can see it here.)

p.s. I did my tree "manually" - one profile at a time. A while back, I helped my grandson upload a gedcom of his tree (about 300 people). I MUCH prefer the manual method! (In other words, I don't think you're missing a thing by not having a gedcom!)

Only Martin as a first name, I'm afraid :-)

I would echo Liz - stick to manual entry. I started by uploading a GEDCOM (fortunately small at c. 150) and spent 6 months straightening it out.
