Anyone able to settle the parentage of Réne the Younger?

Hi WikiWorld :)

I ran into these two when connecting Murrells to Andrews via a McBride marriage to one of the Murrell Gang, then, it appeared, to LeBlancs and Tour-Landrys, via Marie Salle, except... anything conclusive on this?

ReThe Landrys of Old Acadia.
by Peter Landry

René Landry (René, le Jeune) (c.1640-c.1692) of Port Royal:

I came to the conclusion, as previously noted, that René, [#11] was the son of [#1] and not another unrelated Landry as some authors have thought. What we know is that he resided at Port Royal and, in 1662, married Marie Bernard. Marie died in 1719 and was buried at Port Royal. Fourteen children were born to René and Marie, seven were males: Claude (b.1663 [#111], Jean (b.1666 [#112])14, René (b.1668 [#113]), Germain (b.1674 [#114]), Abraham (b.1678 [#115]), Pierre (b.1680 [#116]), & Charles (b.c.1686 [#117]). In the census of 1678, we see this second Rene with Marie and their children living on 12 acres of land and possess 20 head of cattle. It should be noted that Rene[#11] and Marie were not listed in the first census of 1671. Further, I might add, has Rene[#11] ever been listed as son of Rene[#1]: so, the mystery of the two Renés continues. Also, I had, earlier on in my research, concluded (I am not now sure now on what basis) that 18 year old Antoine[#13] was living with his brother in the 1678 census; but, it may well be, he was the son of René[#11], which, on further research, seems to be the more sensible conclusion.

The debate about Jean-Claude Landry ...... Its stated the there is no record of him being in Acadia, however I did find mention of a Jean-Claude in France. Could this be the same person which died in France before his wife came to Acadia.

At one time it was believed that Rene was an Ancestry of my family which has since been proven otherwise, so I have not done any further research.

I hope to connect Rene le jeune to his family in a week or so (June 15, 2021 ?).  I know what the key is, but there are a few conundrums to untie.

What is conclusive so far is that no documentation has been found that connects René Landry with Jean Claude and Marie Salle.  Dr. Landry presents a good position on why people began to think this was possible:

On more that one occasions noted genealogists, including Stephen A. White, genealogist and historian at the University of Moncton's Centre d'Etudes Acadiennes in Moncton New Brunswick and Father Clarence J. d'Entremont, Middle West Pubnico - Yarmouth Co., Nova Scotia, have more than adequately rebutted this theory. They and the others theorize that this error was caused by the early censuses of Acadia, which enumerated Marie Salé as the "widow of Jean Claude" in the cenuses of 1671 and 1678, and then in the 1686 census, no mention was made of her deceased husband Jehan Claude, Marie Salé was enumerated as 86 years old and living between René Landry, le Jeunne and René Landry's oldest son Antoine Landry. This caused noted genealogist, Archange Godbout, to leap to the conclusion, that since Marie Salé was living in close proximity to René Landry, le Jeune, then she was the mother of René Landry, le Jeune. And still a greater leap was made to conclude that if Marie Salé was the widow of Jean Claude, then Jean Claude was the father of René Landry, le jeune and Jean Claude, in fact was actually Jean-Claude Landry, father of René Landry, le jeunne. I am sure that most researchers understand the importance of having all of the information documented, and I am sure that they assume that, since the information they received was from credible sources, that it was documented and factual genealogical and historical data. What I am afraid of is that since this error was so widely published throughout Louisiana, especially in south Louisiana, where the majority of the Louisiana Acadian population resides, these errors will be perpetuated for a long time to come. (emphasis is mine)

Parents could be added to René with strong original source documents.  These profiles are Protected by the Acadian project due to these concerns.  Please leave a comment on any appropriate profile with new information.
