Parents of Allen Young Stokes b. 1878

Another bit of family lore I'm trying to confirm: Supposedly, my father's maternal grandfather, Allen Young Stokes (1878-1943) is distantly related to Gen. George Edward Pickett of the Confederate army.

I've set up a "scratchpad" tree and found a connection between the Stokes clan and the Picketts: Allen Young Stokes (1819-1886) married Margaret Magdalene Pickett (1820-1904) in 1848. However, I am having a hard time just finding my 1878 Allen's parents. The best clue I've found is the wedding announcement for Allen and his first wife, Gertrude K Demitz, in 1901; it lists Allen's father as W. S. Stokes. (Allen's marriage to my great-grandmother was the second marriage for both of them.)

The best information I have indicates my AYS was born 24 October 1878 (possibly 24 November 1878), in Richmond, VA. But the only information that I am certain about starts in 1901, when he and Gertrude moved to Baltimore, MD after being married in Richmond, Va.

Any assistance on my 1878 Allen's parents would be most welcome :)

There is an Allen Stokes son of Willie and Susan Stokes, b. Nov. 1878.

Wm G Stokes and Susan have several other children's births Richmond, VA listed on familysearch in addition to Allen.  Pickett, Eliza, Wm G. b. 1880 d, 1880.

There is a Wm G Stokes b. 1852 to AY and Mary M. Stokes.  In 1900 William G Widowed living with brothers Allan Y Stokes and  Thomas D Stokes and Pickett is listed as grandson, but seeing both Allan and Thomas are single males, could be that Pickett is their nephew?  These names seem to match.  Other records show George P(ickett) Stokes.   Seems both this George P and Allan were in the Navy in MD.

You should us the free search tool at: https://familysearch.org/search  and to trace the brothers Allan Y, Thomas and William G.  Allen Y's parents are listed as AY and Margaret M Tuckett on his death record.  Mother is MM on birth.  One year it appears their named is misspelled Stoker on census.  Some examples below:

William G (rather than W.S.) does seem to be a likely candidate. I've been searching for what feels like forever to track this family down, and kept running into records for the black Stokes lines with similar names. Thanks for the fresh set of eyes! I'll see if I can make some of what you've found line up with what I already have. My gedcom is being imported as we speak/type, so I'll be able to point directly to what I have soon.
