Profile setting not allowing addition of children or editing

Hi Everyone!

Hunt is one of the names on my watchlist. Elizabeth posted twice (yesterday & 6 months ago) in an attempt to add a descendant. The profile is closed to editing. Can anyone help?

No biography is posted, either! Elizabeth may have information on that, too. I'll send her a link to this thread.

Thanks for any help,

Barbara

The problem is the profile's privacy setting. Only members of the Trusted List can edit the profile such as connecting children. There's three solutions I know of:

1. Make the edits yourself.

2. Add me to the profile's Trusted List.

3. Set the profile's privacy setting to Open. (Use the privacy tab near the top of the profile for that.)

I'd be in favor of the 3rd option. Amos passed away over 100 years ago, so privacy shoudn't be an issue. It was probably put to this setting by default when the profile was created by GedCom upload. That's my best guess anyhow.

No one has fixed the profile yet?
At the moment, only the two people on the Trusted List can fix the profile.

Barbara,

The profile's privacy setting was probably set by default upon creation of the profile. You will have to change it manually. Go this link, which is what you get from the privacy tab on Amos's profile. Near the top of the privacy page, you will see several clickable privacy options. At present, you will see a click by the green "Public" option. Right below that is the "Open" setting. Click beside that one, then click the black box just below that which says

SET NEW PRIVACY LEVEL

That should take care of it. Please post to let us know if you have succeeded, or need more assistance.

Barbara isn't on the Trusted list.
Oh, you are right. My mistake. She said it was on her watchlist, which I thought was only if you were on the Trusted List. I didn't check it for myself. Perhaps the unresponsive manager will, eventually, be the way to go on this one.

We have lots and lots and lots and lots of profiles with restricted privacy as default settings from GedCom. They get uploaded and forgotten in many, many cases, but no one else can add on to them.

I have also noticed a change in site defaults lately. I entered several children born in the 1850s from a source with birth records but not death dates a couple days ago. And WikiTree, by default, with no options offered, saved them as restricted privacy. So now, after creating profiles, there is the additional step of opening the profile, clicking the privacy tab and resetting the privacy. If you want to add categories or projects, there's another couple screens via edit tab. If you forget the categories, that doesn't restrict anyone else. But if you slip up on changing the privacy, you are leaving an obstacle behind for others.

Sigh.
I don't mean to push it this much, I'm just trying to help out.

Is there any way to override the setting since Ellen left messages over the past six months (documented by what's on the profile). Isn't that what we do with some of the profiles after a certain length of time?
Unresponsive manager. You have to post on profile, send a private message and request to join Trusted List. Then, when there's still no action, they'll open it up. Even remove the manager.
I sent a request, I don't know if Ellen did. I sent it because it appeared that the creator of the profile was still active.

So we wait.

Thanks for following up with this, Elizabeth.
