David Myers - looking to find the Tx Myers path to Germany

They say this is a spot to introduce yourself, so I'll do it here. My name is David Myers, of a branch of the Myers family in Texas. Our oldest known relative is Charles Myers, mentioned here:

My Dad's brother Tom spent many years doing traditional genealogy, and he didn't trust links, rumors past Charles.

The most common rumor is that Jacob Myers II (1739-1814), who married Margaret Gerster, is Charles's father. As I said, my Dad's brother didn't trust that one.

I've uploaded a GED file, based on stuff I got from Ancestry and from Tom. It hasn't been cleared yet. Once it does, I'll mention My Dad's Y-DNA testing.

My Dad tests closely to a Ross David Myers, whose "terminal" relative is John Myers, b 1742. THE MRCA is currently just out of reach. There are sources that claim that Jon Myers b 1742 is the son of John Myers b 1713, who is traced back to Germany..

Not sure I believe this, as the older John Myers lived in S Carolina.

So, by regular genealogy, genetic genealogy, or by some combination of the two, I'm trying to get us closer to the German roots of our family.

David.

I am researching surveyor Jacob Myers of Frederick MD.  I would like to talk to you!  I live within 1/2 hour drive from Frederick MD.
I'm too far away for a face to face. I live in Atlanta GA and don't have free time presently. If your Jacob Myers is "Jacob Myers II" who married Margaret Gerstner, and if you're a patrilineal descendent, then a Y DNA test would help us a lot. My father has a Y-67 at familytree DNA. I am getting a Y-37 in prep for a Big Y later on. My dad's brother, who was our best genealogist, has passed away, unbfortunately.
Most of what I have researched shows Meyer, Meier, Myers coming through the port of New Orleans.  Have you looked at ships immigration records in the time periods in question?
My Myers family were originally from Boston and have ties to Secretary of War Henry S Breckinridge.  There is some suggest we are related to Surveyor Jacob Myers of Frederick MD but another record says we are related to Ned Myers who was the son of Prince Edward who lived with President John Adams for a time in Boston.  It's all in the book The Life of Ned Myers by James Fenimore Cooper.  All these families settled in Boston PA near Pittsburgh.  It's referred to in Pittsburgh as The Boston Bridge area.

Well to make this very short, look to United States Secretary of the Navy Charles Joseph Bonaparte who's grandfather was the King of Germany.  They were also hanging around Mount St Mary's College in Frederick County MD started by General Lafayette in 1798.  First grad class was 1802. That is a direct line to Germany.  That information is by shoe leather on the grounds of Frederick MD and by Catholic Bishop William McCloskey of Louisville KY.  My line is William Myers married to Catherine Grundy who was the niece of Attorney General Felix Grundy.  The Grundys also have ties to Frederick MD.

Ok, just did a BIG-Y test and my Y-DNA was unique enough that the Big Tree Y-DNA chart now has my DNA listed.

I'm just saying, if you think you're at all related in any fashion, it would be worth it if you invested in the least expensive Y DNA test that FTDNA offers and see if we match.

Thx,

David.
