Who is the father and mother of Sterling Eno Sweet who was born in Phoenix NY about 1844

Question

I am new t Wikitree. I am ned help to identify who the father and mother of Sterling Eno Sweet. He was born in Phoenix NY about 1844ish. I know they lived in Clay ,Ny when he was about 6 months old. Later he was a Boatman . He joined the Army during the Civil War. I have his discharge papers. and payroll and ischarge papers. They dont list his parents. The pesino lists his daughters and some marriage info. He married Nancy jane Harrison from Missouri. The lived in Wayne County, MO. I think it was Dec 1,1901/1903 when he passed away.

I have good reason to believ his mother remarried after his father passed. or was married prior to marrying his father.

My great grandmother told me sterling's mom was from Scotland. Their names maybe Angell and Mary.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Diane - I found this info on a family tree on Ancestry.com so I don't know how accurate it is.  It will give you some clues for further research.  Your g-grandmother has a good memory!  I checked the 1850 Census but Angell died in 1850 obviously before the census was taken. The rest of the family is shown.

Your original question was - who are the parents of Sterling?  We now know that  Angell is his father so I have been looking for Sterling's other parent (his mother).  What I have found is that Mary Ann Sweet is her maiden name as well as her married name.  Perhaps I am getting confused or perhaps Angell and Mary Ann were cousins.  I definitely have to spend more time on this but for now I will post the following which may not be totally accurate.
